Cut Sherrod Martin

The INT by Martin was unimpressive. The guy that really won us the game was Charles Godfrey with the tip pass. A complete scrub safety could have made an INT on a tipped pass. Martin was in the right place at the right time. His coverage is suspect, and his run defense leaves much to be desired. He is an average safety at best. That being said, we have bigger needs to fill than FS, sadly.

his presence of mind to keep 2 feet in while securing the ball was very impressive.. A complete scrub would NEVER make that catch with both feet in.

so you cant say anything bad about a players performance? no way should we cut Martin thats dumb, but to say he didnt look to good in tackling is an understatement.

I have no problem with that. I have a problem with people trying to act like it's easy to tackle a pro bowl Wr in the open field. He made a poor effort at the tackle but don't act like it's a routine thing.

Dude let it go you're wrong.

I showed you a list of top 25 WR in YAC

Neither Boldin or Smith (and I love 89#) were up there. Wayne was. No matter how you try to spin it (to make yourself feel better) he makes people miss break tackles and beats the coverage to get YAC. It's not just that 1 way he does it.

Did you actually read the article you linked? Those stats are from 2010 so of course Smitty's not near the top, he had 554 yards receiving last year.

http://espn.go.com/nfl/statistics/player/_/stat/receiving/sort/receivingYardsAfterCatch

That's THIS year's list, good lucking finding Wayne on it (hint: he's not even in the top 50).

Secondly, in the article you posted it even says:

Reggie Wayne, for example, was No. 4 in YAC last year (438 yards). But he averaged only 3.3 yards after the catch. As you'll see below, Wayne is not terribly effective after the catch.

Of course he's going to be near the top of the rankings in YAC, he was 2nd in receptions with 111. Average is really the only stat that matters. And in case you're curious, Smitty's average YAC last season was 4.8 with Jimmy freakin' Clausen at QB.

Dude not trying to come at you but you need to read the whole thread before replying to a post. That you have taken out of context. I didn't link that list to diss #89 (again I love Smitty). The point of linking the list was to show Miaoww that Reggie Wayne has been good at getting yards after the catch most his career and that he was selling wayne short with his breakdown.

It really had nothing to do with Smitty so before you get all defensive read the whole thread before posting.

I wasn't being defensive at all, just not sure why you'd expect to see Smitty on a list of top receivers of 2010 in any statistical category. Also not sure why you'd consider someone with a YAC average of 3.3 per catch to be good at getting yards after the catch? If anything your link just proved his point, Wayne wasn't even in the top 25 in average YAC.

its becoming routine. i guess you forgot about the titan game were he missed a tackle twice on 1 play.no excuse for that attempt armanti would have broken from that hit.

Again you seem to be missing the whole point. I didn't bring up Smitty name Miaoww did. I didn't expect smitty to do anything with the bad qb play that happen here last year. But really again that wasn't the fuging point.

By the way isn't it being a little hypocritical for you to talk about Wayne 3.3 yac this year when he's having the same problem Smitty had last year (a bad QB)???

If anything my link prove that over Reggie Wayne's career he has been very good at getting YAC.

Which was the whole fuging point.

I'm not here to compare smitty to Wayne because I would take smitty all day.

But again that wasn't the point of my post.

Doesn't matter he will be our starter this year and next.

He has put up good # all year while playing behind a suckass front 7.

I'll excuse his mistakes this year because he and CG have had to cover up for the front 7 mistakes all season.

Can you just forget that I brought up Smitty at all? Jesus Christ. The 3.3 average was from last year. With Peyton Manning at QB. It's information that was, you know, in that link you posted.

I could probably look up his career numbers but I highly doubt they're drastically different. This is like trying to have a meaningful discussion with a can of paint. =\

Yahoo actually made this pretty easy. Here's the career YAC averages of some of the better receivers currently in the league. Wayne ranks higher than two of them. And yes, I was that bored.

Reggie Wayne - 3.9 - http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/5477/career

Wes Welker - 5.8 - http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/7027/career

Larry Fitzgerald - 3.5 - http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/6762/career

Brandon Marshall - 4.5 - http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/7868/career

Donald Driver - 4.5 - http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/4863/career

Marques Colston - 4.5 - http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/8001/career

Calvin Johnson - 5.2 - http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/8256/career

Deion Branch - 4.2 - http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/5951/career

Roddy White - 4.0 - http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/7203/career

DeSean Jackson - 5.7 - http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/8826/career

Vincent Jackson - 3.4 - http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/7237/career

Pierre Garcon - 5.4 - http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/8982/career (that's right, he's a distant 2nd to a guy on his own team)

Dwayne Bowe - 4.7 - http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/8277/career

Terrell Owens - 5.3 - http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/3664/career

Hakeem Nicks - 5.4 - http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/9293/career

Andre Johnson - 4.8 - http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/6339/career

Of course 89's got them all beat with a 6.1 yard average.

It does matter because he is a starter and you would expect better. open field tackling has nothing to do with the front 7, its amazing how we make excuses for guys thats been on a NFL roster for years but dog a rookie for a mistake.
