So is there any doubt left as to what position our pick will be?

How about we draft a DT, sign a DT, AND get Ron Edwards healthy? Just cover all our bases

Winner. Fua should have to work his ass off to be on this team next year

On Secondary & LB:

People underestimate Butler but we simply need to be taller & faster at CB and at S for that matter. We can't pursue after initial contact well and we need that really instinctive type at both OLB & CB. We need a damn reliable defensive motor at DT that can give a push to NFL o-lineman. It's just not hapenning right now.

& the excuse for getting too young is ridiculous. You constantly build who you can get and I'm not giving a second year's grace without decent insurance to these currently 3rd round draft picks with maybe-starter potential and that's saying a lot.

The minimal insurance is Edwards...leaving us the choice to draft and take another high draft shot or just keep a Neblett...hmmm what sounds right??

Secondary is loaded with players this draft. No need to go there in the first. With a lack of available options on the team, I think DT is really the only viable

option at this point.

With a Top 10 pick? That wouldn't be wise considering the draft eligible DTs - they're not difference makers.

If you bring in Claiborne and pair him with Gamble and Hogan then you instantly have a MAJORLY upgraded secondary as opposed to still having a gaping hole

No. Just look at the Eagles and their MAJORLY upgraded secondary. Teams are actually gaining more yards per pass than they did last year and this isn't counting the game today. Their defense is also allowing more yards per run attempt this year too.

The gaping hole you speak of, it starts and ends at defensive tackle.

Define "great DT"

No sure impact player.

NO Suh

No Farily

No Darius

Nobody worth taking with a top 10 pick. We would be reaching taking a DT this year high in the draft.

Plus we are already to young at DT we need to look to FA for a DT.

Antonio Garay (SD) - NT - Just as quickly as they lost Jamal Williams, they've replaced him at nose tackle with another Pro Bowl caliber player. It's crucial to the defense that they retain Garay to anchor the defensive front.

Sione Pouha (NYJ) - NT - The Jets aren't in a position with great depth in their front 7 where they can afford to allow productive starters to leave. Securing Pouha should be one of the organization's first objectives before they decide how to improve their roster through external acquisitions.

Get Impact players at OT, CB, or Zac Brown OLB in the draft.

thats true but there's no miracle cure at DT this year... people last year were down on Darius and I'm not even convinced there is a DT near his (lol or Fairley's) level this year, let alone Suh

we need experience there. we have enough youthful mistakes there and other places.

there isn't someone in the draft this year who is going to be able to come in and make an immediate impact. if your biggest/best solution is to go out and draft a DT early in the draft you are basically saying that it's ok if we continue to suck there for another year or two because that's how long it's going to take for the guy to learn to be stout at his job. guys like suh who can make a difference and play at a top level right away are very few and far between.

best solution is to get solid vet(s) an rotate them in with mclain and fua and hope that an offseason of pro-level conditioning and muscle/mass gaining and coaching will get them to play at the level we need. bringing edwards back will help a lot towards that end, but we still need one or two more.

looking at this draft class in particular, it looks like it is abnormally bad for DTs. the best looking guy who could play DT that i would like is billy winn out of boise st, but he's projecting as a DE. i just don't like this clas of DTs at all for short term or long term. it's just a sucky year for them. the FA class isn't much better, but it is better just because it has guys with experience.

We need help at way more positions than DT, although that is probably our biggest need. Our defense is slow at so many positions not many players have sideline to sideline speed, beason and davis were the big ones and they may never be the same or never be a panther again. FS,CB,LB,DT all need serious help if we want to be a good defense again.

Kalil is a rare talent, there is no rare talent at DT/LB in top 5 where we pick. So unless we find a great trade down option the pick needs to be Kalil.

Gross is getting old and an Elite Joe Thomas type LT to pair with Cam for his career will set us up well. Especially in a Vertical offense that requires solid OL protection.

Its more than just protecting Cam.OT is not a sexy move but being able to run the ball is.It will make DWILL Stew and Cam look better.

When it comes to Matt Kalil, I never seen a tackle who is so light on his feet. The speed at which he comes out of his stance is phenomenal. It's hard to get around him, even for the fastest of DEs. If we are sitting there with the 3rd overall pick, we got to take him. Corners are a dime a dozen, and we can pick up a good LB with our second pick. (Te'o would be perfect)

With a supreme offensive line, Cam will have an excellent amount of time to find receivers.

I agree with the lack of worthy top pick defensive tackles in this years draft. I was only pointing out that the lack of defensive tackle talent we have on the team is greater than the lack of secondary talent.
