Minor Moves

I want to see Cam and 5 WR sets. Smitty, Lafell, Edwards, Pilares, whoever. Dooooooit.

Although I gotta say, Cam Smitty Lafell Edwards DWill Olsen should be a decent offensive formation. Pull out all stops vs the Colts though. Have to.

Our two tight ends are light years ahead of our 3rd, 4th, and 5th receiver options in my opinion.

WTF? This season we have seen some of the biggest flubs in roster management under Hurney ever.

Darvin Adams on an active roster? lol...

Brandon Hogan activated only to not see the field his first 3 weeks because his knee isn't ready? Then why was he activated...

I just don't get it.

Unless Hogan turns out to be a really solid player, this is turning out to be another Hurney flub. Look at it this way...if you wanted to pick up an additional 4th round pick in 2011, it would generally cost you a 3rd round pick in 2012. With Hogan's unavailability this year, it is equivalent to using a 2012 third round pick to get him. 3rd round picks should be more than just role players, so Hogan better turn out to be at least our nickle back.

I think Hurney likes to swing for the fences too much. Sometimes singles and doubles get you more than an occasional home run with a lot of strike outs.

Rivera is doing what he said he would do, use the next 6 games to evaluate talent and decide who is going to make the team and who isn't...Wouldn't be surprised to see more of these signings and waivings as we go...The rebuilding process continues.

I am excited about how the team is handling this. Fox would never have done this, but we need to know who can be counted on for next year. It may get even more ugly at times, but we know there are some great pieces for growth, but we need to find out about the 'unknowns'. Good job Rivera.

Agreed!

The thing is tho, as I just posted, they need to see if they have 'anyone' on the current roster who can help next year. It's not b/c Adams is going to be a beast, but we really just don't know now. Who would have though Thomas Keiser would do what he did? He was practice squad too. It's not always about elite talent, but you have to find role-palyers too & I think that's what they are trying to do now.

Hogan was a mistake, they should have shelved him for the year & still should probably (to be safe).

Hogan's injury meant he wasn't going to play right away but the hope was that he could play this year. He isn't because Butler and Munnerlyn have played better than expected. Drafting him wasn't a mistake and he could play if we were in a playoff race but we clearly aren't. So why put him in when we are trying to see what we have across the board. at this point it makes sense to go slow with him. If he becomes our starting corner for the next decade then drafting him like we did will look like a steal.

The reality is that a lot of things haven't turned out as the Panthers expected. It doesn't mean that Hurney screwed up simply that we prepared for lots of contingencies and had to adapt as we went along. Right now it makes no sense to play Hogan but it surely wasn't a mistake to draft him.

It's kind of weird they activated Adams and not someone else if you ask me.

Edwards, Pilares, etc have seen litte to no time at reciever this year courtesy of our offensive formations. What exactly do they expect to see out of Adams? Perhaps a ST impact, but beyond that, I have a hard time seeing Adams getting much playing time on offense. Would NOT be surprised to see LA's injury magically get much worse and him mysteriously end up on IR here soon enough.

To be clear, I wasn't trying to infer drafting him was a mistake... I loved the move and love his potential long-term... I was saying this year has possibly been Hurney's worst in terms of week to week roster management - who we signed/didn't sign, who we brought up to the active roster vs who can actually play, Felton, etc.

And some of this has to fall on Rivera too but it's just been really frustrating. Several pressers I heard Rivera say Hogan was ready physically and described him as "explosive," but just needed to get his confidence and technique up to par. Now we're hearing he isn't playing because his knee isn't ready. Just seems like a lot of confusion, but ultimately it doesn't matter because it's another "building" year.

I actually find this bit concerning...We gotta get on the same page

One of the reasons things look so disjoined is because I think we shifted strategies post bye week. Initially at the begiining of the year, we were going to give folks a look then Cam did so well the team decided we should try and win every week. Hogan was in the mix and they thought they would need him. Once the bye got here and we were only 2-8, we went back to the building strategy and changing things from week to week. That is why Hogan isn't in, Goodson went to IR, and we got rid of Felton and brought in Adams. If we win, we win, but the emphasis is on seeing who is going to be here next year.
