Cutler>Peppers ?

If no one wants to pay for Peppers I think he will stay here and I wouldn't be surrpised to see him sign long term. All of the talk and bravado about wanting out was predicated on the belief that he was the best guy out there and everyone would be falling over themselves to sign him.

It is too early to tell what his value is as we have had no talks with anyone that we know of. Still it appears thats Peppers may not be as desirable as he thought which may be why he is considering staying here. No one else would pay half what we will.

Still it is interesting to note that while he will cost 16 million, we are not giving him huge up front money and can turn him lose at any time if he stinks it up. The front office may feel that as long as we can get through this year with 2010 being an uncapped year and uncertainly moving forward, it isn't so bad just paying him as we go. Once he starts to decline we cut him loose and owe him nothing.

Just a thought.

What was more important in the AZ game? The fact that we had the best DE on the field or the fact that AZ has the best QB on the field?

both. jake didnt help us any by throwing 5 ints. but at the same time the defense didnt help jake any cause they couldnt get pressure on warner or stop fitsgerald.

it takes more than one great player on either side of the ball to win games

You're using a game where our QB threw 5 interceptions and had a fumble to illustrate that our DE is not as important as AZ QB? For realz...

Come on guys...you don't REALLY think that DE is more important than QB do you? It is ALOT easier to hide an average DE than it is to hide an average QB.

The bottom line, is that Cutler had about 10 teams trying to outbid each other for his services. That's not happening with Peppers, because he has painted himself into a corner with the statement that he wants to be an OLB in a 3-4 defense, along with publicly stating that he only wants to play for one of 4 teams...not to mention that his "agent" wants to get Haynesworth-like money, which nobody is gonna pay for an OLB.

And besides all of that, it's extremely rare for a team to trade away a successful 1st round QB who is just now entering his prime years. This scenario probably won't happen again for 20 years or more.

Comparing Cutler and Peppers is as ridiculous as having 328023 threads on trading Cutler for Peppers.

Peppers is 29, had a bad season in '07, and is a DE wanting a poo load of money to play a different/new position. Add in what his agent and the list of poo they thought they could demand, and you find yourself in this position: no news on us getting rid of Peppers.

Cutler is 25. Is maybe OVERhyped. That alone is going to demand a high price. Do I need to even add to what Culter provides? People are changing their underwear over a strong armed QB who is only 25 and completely overhyped as a great QB already, even after a horrible season (TD/Int wise).

And people are comparing a DE to a QB? Your insane if that even makes a bit of sense.

Teams are going to spend money on Cutler even if he is a pansy upstairs and hasn't proven he is elite yet.

With that said, I'm glad this non-sense is close to being over (at least it IS over with him coming here).. I'm very interested to see how he fares this coming year and beyond. (Chicago will be fun to watch, with their fans and his sensitive side.)

He has some growing to do.
