Cutler>Peppers ?

Other then Peppers not signing the tender which limits teams ability to deal for him, I think his perceived value of himself is much higher than reality. A 'dominating' DE is very valuable in the NFL, but I'm not sure teams other than the Panthers view him as dominating.

also, Pep has made certain by his actions he doesn't get in a situation like Cutler where he simply goes to the highest bidder. Pep is looking to just get out of town to whoever wants him and will pay him. IMO, Pep has clearly shown he won't make what he considers a lateral move to another team....either he goes to one of his teams or he stays. Pep wants what in his mind is a dream job.....he isn't going to be put in a situation where he is just dealt like they did w/ Cutler.

We could easily could 2 first and Pep just wanted out of town (like Cutler).....but Peppers isn't just looking to leave.

to get a young franchise qb you either have to give up alot like the bears did, not to mention getting Lucky that such a rare situation came up.

Or get lucky and draft a stud in the draft, which is a crap shoot.

Peppers is very Overrated, not worth over $10/mil a year for what he produces. and he's on the downslope of his career. He will be washed up within a few years probably, he already takes games and seasons off.

Cutler has more "talent" than Cassel...but I don't think he has the "want to". Mere "want to" doesn't mean you belong in the NFL, but talent without "want to" is one of the saddest thing to see in sports. Cutler's a silver spoon guy, drafted in the first, therefore always expected to start in the NFL... and Cassel isn't and wasn't. I heard on First Take the other day that Haley hopes Cassel can play as well as he prepares because he has everything else you want in a QB. Haley said he actually has to tell Cassel TO GO HOME...that he is at the facility too much (ALREADY!!!). Cutler? Won't call the owner back. Haley says Cassel is always asking him questions and asking for players' phone #s so he can get to know his teammates one on one. Supposedly Cassel's agent didn't know he could be traded wherever the Pats wanted to trade him if he signed the tender, but did Cassel whine about that publicly? Nope.

That said, I think it would be even funnier if Mickey D got a pro bowl caliber year out of Orton. Cassel's year last year was probably borderline to make the PB performance wise. No the PB itself isn't the measure, I just really mean a good year production wise. Naturally if Orton has a good year, it will likely magically be more due to the receiving corps, great pass protecting OL, good offensive mind running the show, and decent run game he has (though Cutler had all that already and some people seem to think none of the issues they had on offense were his doing). And if Cutler plays about how Orton did in Chi, the reverse (though I think Orton had a pretty shaky defense, like Cutler, and hardly a strong supporting cast on offense other than the magnificent Forte who I love, and certainly I don't think too many Bears fans will say Turner is a great OC) will likely be a POV that is advanced.

I don't buy that, I think an elite DE is just as important as an elite QB and most of the league agrees with me...

i really dont see how that is. an elite qb has a legitimate opportunity to put up 300 yards and 3-4 touchdowns against ANY defense in the league while an elite DE has the opportunity to put up maybe 3 sacks in a game. which would u rather have? not to mention DEs dont run the 2 minute drill and they cant single handedly make a whole defensive unit, or hell even just the front 4, a legitimate threat. look at drew brees, he didnt have marques colston most of the year and essentially no running game (no threatening backs at least) and the saints were still one of the most potent offenses in the league. look at us with peppers and his high caliber year: our defense was mediocre and our defensive front 4 was our weakest point in our whole team.

and to the original post, we really have no idea what teams have been offering for peppers. we signed gross at the last possible second and i dont see any reason not to think we wont deal peppers at the last second. even if he stays, big deal, thats one less hole we need to fill on the defensive line. sit back, relax, smoke a blunt and put some trust in this situation.
