PFT hypes Newton

Newton sets rookie rushing TD record

If he continues on this pace, Newton would finish the season with 14 rushing touchdowns. To put that in perspective, 14 is the most rushing touchdowns Walter Payton ever had in a season. And he was pretty good.

Newton also has a chance to lead the league in rushing touchdowns this season; only Adrian Peterson with 11 and LeSean McCoy with 10 are ahead of him right now.

Former Patriot Steve Grogan has the single-season record for rushing touchdowns by a quarterback, with 12 in 1976. Just last year, NFL.com listed Grogan’s record as one of the five NFL records least likely to be broken. But that was before Cam Newton arrived in the NFL. Newton might just be a couple games away from breaking it.

For the record, this was written by Michael David Smith, not Mike Florio, so Florio haters can continue :D

florio has been unusually positive (for him) in regards to the panthers this season.

It seems Florio's hate is for Steve Smith individually moreso than the Panthers as a whole. He usually just mocks the Panthers with little smartass comments because we are/have been/will be the laughingstock of the league for some time now.

In fairness, Smith isn't exactly Dale Carnegie :sosp:

If he wasn't a Panther, pretty good chance a lot of us wouldn't like him much either.

But hey, being a fan of a team involves it's fair share of hypocrisy sometimes

That's typical of most sports though, and WR specifically too. Everybody outside of Cincy hated Chad Johnson, everybody outside of Minny hated Randy Moss, and everybody outside of SF hate TO. That's the way of the world I suppose.

I wonder how Walter Payton's team did when he scored all those TD's. The other two guys (three if you include Newton) have losing season this year despite their performances. Just goes to show one player can't make the difference.

I hope he does get the record though he deserves it.

one player can make the difference if you are a solid team top to bottom.

one player can't make the difference when the other phases are poo

This statement is somewhat hypocritical. Maybe I'm reading it wrong?

One player can make the difference if the other players play well?

lol

Like I said, one player can't do it.
