Cam hasn't taken a step back

I agree. And a 101 yard TD runback is calculated in the total points. The 101 yardage isn't counted.

And yes YPP is meaningless for evaluating offenses.

It's meaningless to guys who have no clue what YPP is or how it works and I agree, you are one of the ones that should never use it again. Or any other stats.

YPP includes the yards.

Turnovers, field position, and the scoreboard determine the outcome of a game. Anyone who defends a stat and uses the words "regardless of" in front of any of these three has no business posting in this forum and should be immediately remanded to smack only.

Dude. Go to school. Learn stats. Learn football. Or stop posting about things you don't understand. YPP measures just that: turnovers and field position as well as wasted yards and wasted scoring opportunities against points. Offensive Efficiency.

Anyone that makes stupid posts and passes judgment about someone else's level of understanding of a subject, while proving in the same paragraph, they have 0 understanding of it should be immediately remanded to smack only.

I don't really think Cam has "regressed".

However, his accuracy on throws the past few weeks HAS been much worse than it was earlier in the season. He was throwing high and wide again....missing open WR's.

This is a normal progression in the development of a young QB. But, he has NOT played as well the last few weeks.

Rookie wall.

If he hasn't hit it yet, he's getting pretty close to it. And honestly, no one should be surprised by that.

As to the topic, opposing coaches do indeed "catch on" to every player at some point. From then on, it just becomes a matter of who executes better. It's not a death sentence, but combine it with Newton beginning to hit the rookie wall and you can expect some struggles.

Doesn't worry me because it won't be an issue next year.

No it doesn't.

Was our offense very efficient yesterday at 11.7 YPP or is YPP not representative of offensive efficiency? You avoid that question like the plague.

Not that this comment fits here, but....

I realize this offense is about vertical, down field, attacking....blah blah blah...but that is no reason not to develop an intermediate and short passing game. It seams like it's a 30 yard pass or nothing.

It's not unusual for longball throwers to not be as strong in the short game, especially as rookies. I think his intermediate passes are generally okay (though not yesterday).

Again, not something that I worry much about because I figure it'll get fixed as he develops.

YPP is a cheat for recreational sports bettors. It is important to people who are addicted to parlays and need a third or fourth or fifth (etc) game to pick. It's about as reliable as any other system out there (crap shoot)

For a fan to brag about this is kind of dumb because it is used against the spread or to pick over under, not how good your team is or how well they are actually playing.

Again, its a cheat for betting and even some in Fantasy. For everyone looking at this as yards per play instead of yards per point ask trudat to clarify. I did and got no response.

I have never heard a commentator, analyst, coach, or NFL-affiliated pundit talk about yards per point. That's because everyone has heard of Pete Rose.

I didn't want any quarterback this year and I'm happy. .

Same boat here. Laughing out loud at the nitpickers.

Fundamentals and the ability to pass were the BIGGEST ?'s with Cam.

How can they still be after ten games of him as the starter within the context of everything else going on with this team?

My big deals were accuracy, mechanics, durability and lack of experience in a pro style system. Of those, only accuracy has been an issue thus far, but that's improving. His overall mechanics took a huge step forward a couple of games back. I just think he's hitting the old rookie wall now.

Said it before: Newton is a gunslinger type of QB. That means his passes will likely always be a mix of "how did he do that" and "what was he thinking". Panther fans should be used to that by now.

No, he'll probably never have the kind of pinpoint accuracy that guys like Brady, Manning, Brees and Rodgers do, but that's okay. As long as more passes are catchable than not, we'll be fine.

Teams have won Super Bowls with guys like Favre and Elway at the helm. I see Newton in that mold.

I think it really early to judge him on his accuracy because he is still very raw. Its kinda hard to think at this point because he has done so well but he still has a load he will improve on in the off-season and his 2nd and 3rd year. This year has been a hard one and he def has faced some very good teams. Its a good thing though because it will make next year just that much more easy for him. Calling protections and understanding defenses is still in the future but man when that happens its going to be almost unfair to the DC.

His accuracy has gotten better and will likely continue to do so. Again, he may never be as pinpoint accurate on a consistent basis as some, but he will certainly have some passes that look near flawless. Yes, he'll have the occasional head scratcher too, but expect those to get more and more "occasional' as time passes.

One important note: For this type of quarterback, chemistry with receivers is a big BIG deal (remember how Delhomme sometimes only trusted Smith?) That's why it'd be a good thing to make sure we have the receiving corps we want long term ASAP.

Cam has taken a step back. I don't know how you couldve watched yesterdays game and missed all of the balls he sent sailing over recievers heads all game. He wasn't throwing well. His mechanics were off. He is a rookie tho and will get it down soon.
