Cam hasn't taken a step back

Defenses are adjusting to Cam. Cam will adjust to their adjustments, usually much faster than the typical rookie, and the cycle will continue.

Didn't anyone else notice that Detroit tried to copy Tennessee's defensive gameplan, and Cam's already started tearing up that scheme?

The kid adapts. He learns. On the typical quarterbacking scale he's already midway into next seasons' worth of development. You can talk to NFL honchos all around the league, and they all readily admit that Cam is going to be extremely scary very, very soon.

I don't think it's "a step back" per se. Just normal rookie adjustment.

To be fair, many people had Cam in the top 5 QBs in the league just 4 weeks ago.

If you were to say that was hype back then, you'd be banned. If it wasn't just hype or "beginners luck" as some might put it, you'd have to say it's a step back.

If not, the early season was a mirage.

There is nothing wrong with having a step back from where he was and there is nothing to indicate this trend will continue into the future, but it's a little concerning.

Whatever it is, it doesn't matter. It won't matter until year 3.

Cam did have several overthrows yesterday, but that has been pretty much par for the course for the year for him. His receivers had some drops, which hurt big time. I think it's less Cam regressing, and more teams shutting down Steve Smith like Seattle did in the 2005 playoffs. When he is on fire, teams double, triple, and even quadruple team him with LB and safety help. PLus Chud's playcalling with a lead was suspect at best. Cam has struggled a little bit lately, but it's a total lack of effort from the offensive unit at times that kills us.

Note: This post is speaking strictly to offensive struggles, I'm not forgetting our DIII college defense skill level at all, just didn't address it here.

Stop complaining about Chud's playcalling people, he is what he is.

We got rid of conservative offense with a lead when Fox left, it's what you wanted. Chud's offense makes QBs put up flashy numbers but he doesn't change throughout the game. He's the reason Cam has so many yards, rushing TDs, big plays, etc. You have to take the good with the bad.

I totally agree with taking the good with the bad. People need to learn to do this with Cam as well. The killer instinct that allowed Cam to sit in the pocket on a all out blitz and hit Smitty in stride, is the same instinct that cause him to take on a hit by Suh while trying to hit Olsen, causing an INT. And, the same people that was screaming how great one play was, are the same people that was yelling he need to take a sack on the other.

TRD - I know you feel, Cam can do no wrong in most of our eyes, but the truth is, this kid will never be able to do anything right in a lot of people's eyes.

It's not being "conservative" if you run the ball more with the lead. It just depends on how/when you do it. Chud is just being so aggressive passing wise that it has become the extreme opposite of what happened under Fox to a fault as well.

The problem in both cases is that opponents know what we're going to do and we do it anyway, that's setting yourself up for failure. If you watch the Saints or the Patriots offense, odds are if you try to guess what they're going to do, you're going to be wrong a few times because they mix up the passes with runs well.

I want to know how defensive gameplanning causes him to have poor fundamentals. I want to know how defensive gameplanning causes him to sail pass after pass even when there is minimal pressure.

This is another excuse.

I'm going to hand you a form to fill out at your job. Then, I'm going to send 4 muscle-bound 300 lb. guys at you to bury you into the floor as soon as I hand you a pen and tell you to complete the form. Let's see how legible it is when you're done.
