Panthers, Newton still not good enough in crunch time

The Panthers had led 27-14 at halftime after two of their finest quarters of the season, but got outscored 35-8 in the second half when the defense looked helpless and Newton looked very young.

Once again, Newton struggled late, with three of his four interceptions coming in the game's last 18 minutes. For all the numbers he has already achieved early in his career, he has yet to have a signature, game-winning, deep-in-the-fourth-quarter drive.

That made it easy pickings for former Panthers safety Chris Harris, who scooped up the deflection and raced to the Panthers 23 to set up Detroit's final TD.

Just because you guys don't want to listen to what I have been saying for 3 months now, doesn't mean it's not true, others don't see it and even the media won't eventually catch on. Chris got his revenge it looks like. Didn't even notice it was him.

I agree with the article but expecting any rookie QB to do things Tom Brady, John Elway, Peyton Maning, etc couldn't possible do in their rookie season is insane.

I don't see where you get that from and Cam Newton's not exactly a rookie anymore either. We're 10 weeks in. He's got a total of 14 games under his belt now counting preseason.

Not sure what's crazier. Expecting to put away more than 1 out of 8 tied or close 4th quarter games or expecting your defense to not break when your offense plays this bad, and puts them in those types of positions. He's 1 for 8 in game winning comebacks. Dalton's had 3 already and he's a rookie too.

It goes both ways you know. Defense had more three and outs versus the Lions than the Lions did against our offense. But when our offense also puts our defense in a position to defend from the 23 and 30 yard lines against one of the most efficient offenses in the league, Cam Newton throws 4 interceptions, but fails to take advantage of red-zone turnovers our defense gives them, I'm not sure how you can't see that as anything other than total failure on the offense's side.

Especially with 3 interceptions in the last 18 minutes in a tied ball game. That will about do it every time.

Cam is fine he doesn't and shouldn't have to come back in the 4th with the leadwe had at halftime. Our defense doesn't lack talent its raw and is missing leadership. We have 3rd string and practice squad playing the linebacker position. We have 2 rookie dt's who will be good in the future but are just as young as cam trying to get in the swing of the system. We have a great secondary but they are trying to compensate for the missed tackles up front. To tell you the truth this year is only going to bring promises for next year when we get beason and davis back and throw is edwards and we will make a stand but we will be fine not this year though. Expect us to win maybe 4 games and get a 3rd or 4thbad round draft pick and maybe makes 1 or 2 moves on free agents and we will have a hell of a team next year.

Rivera is still not explaining where the disconnect is with his defense. Is it between players? coaches? plays?

Crappy ass personnel. Our defense is littered with 3rd teamers and practice squad garbage. Can't win NFL football games with backups of backups.

Carolina offense 1st down at 48 yard line. Scores 7. Good job offense.

-Carolina drives full field score 3 points. Ok job offense.

Who played better? Lions offense. Everyone else about tied.

You keep saying offense is the problem not defense. Article said offense sucked AND defense looked helpless. Not the same thing.
