Why waive him when you could trade him? (hypothetically)

That requires somebody willing to give up picks/player(s) in addition to being willing to absorb his existing contract. It's possible considering they only get the salary. We eat the hit for the signing bonus.

He got a 16 mill signing bonus for 5 years leaving 12.8 to hit our cap, PLUS 5 mill guaranteed salary for 2012 if we cut him. Another team absorbs the 5 mill hit if they trade. The Minimum hit we take for cutting him is 11.4 mill IF we wait until after June. Then we have an additional 6.4 mill to eat in 2013.

Have to say that I fully support the above rant. :iagree:

D-Will is in the top 10-15% (at very worst) in the league in terms of talent. In terms of production, he is 8th in the league for RBs for yards per carry; he can't control attempt, but with the carries he has gotten, he's made the most of them.

Anyone who watches the Panthers games, & knows football, can see that our offense has not been designed to run the ball. We just have amazing RBs in Williams & Stewart that have made the offensive gameplan (Chud) look better in terms of running.

Why would we give up on a top 10 RB? I get the contract cost, but you do a lot more damage to team trust & chemistry by trading a positive team guy like Williams & send a horrible message to the team.

DWill contract is really a 2 year deal. If we cut him after 2 years, we will have "0" cap hit. This is when JStew contract is up. Hurney did a good job, we will cut DWill when he's 30 and resign JStew to a long term deal. If we cut DWill after this year, we will have about $15 millions in dead money.
