Chris Gamble Appreciation Thread

Gamble still has never shown to be worth the contract he was given.

Gamble is lucky this year.....there are so many ways to expose this defense....he benefits from that. It isn't so much that Gamble is so good people want to stay away from him (as he has always struggled w/ deep routes IMO)......but there isn't a point in testing the one decent player w/ so many easy ways to hurt us.

Gamble is having the 3rd best year behind Revis and Ike Taylor, he was horrible last year because he was going through some health issues, and he and Fox supposedly had some disagreements. Gamble has always been good.

I think everyone gets two arguments confused. To separate them:

1. Is gamble a good corner (worthy of #1)?

2. Is he worth his money? (#1 paid player on the team and has a huge contract in general especially considering when it was given to him). But also keep in factor the money shift the lockout settlement has arranged.

These questions need to be kept separate and regardless of the answer, not that Gamble is old but I think drafting a CB of the future should be a very realistic goal. Gamble was very young when we got him so maybe the same route.

This might be true except for opposing QBs have less than a 50 passer rating against him. Even when they throw at him it normally doesn't work.

I agree he has always been good.....he was paid money to be better than just good. Calvin is his first real test this year as Roddy has fallen off. Let's wait until Sunday is played to talk about how great he is......bc Stafford will throw to Megatron

i really like that he doesn't have the mouth or attitude that revis has. he comes with no hype and he doesn't hype himself. he just goes out there and gets the job done. his performance speaks for him.

i don't have a problem with guys puffing themselves up, but i like it when someone can perform at a high level and do it quietly. there's something cool about it.

i really like how he's doing and i'm glad hes finally in a system that will use him properly.

if only he had been allowed to shadow fitz in that playoff game maybe we wouldn't have gotten spanked so bad. sure, we'd still have jake's 6 turnovers to groan about, but we wouldn't have had fitz go off on us for 120 yards in the first half or whatever it was.

The only thing I can agree is that Gamble may be playing better than previous years. As to say he is worthy of being a number 1 corner and pro-bowl bound, not really! Who has been brought in to really challenge or shall I say been someone we can compare to as being an exceptional corner during his tenure here. Ken Lucas? I would only rate him as being an average corner in the league, nothing great. Captain has had more than his fair share of getting burned in coverage this year alone. In my opinion Captain is a younger Ricky Manning Jr., more of a nickel back. In no way can I see him being worth the same money as Asante Samual! I know we have greater needs to fix but if there is a great corner up for grabs next year we shouldn't hesitate. My apology to all the Gamble fanatics, I just don't see him being considered one of the top corners around.

Do you always talk out of your ass, or better yet do even watch the games?

At first glance, there's nothing impressive about the statistics - Gamble has only recorded 16 tackles, two interceptions and three pass defenses - but the story is how little the opposition is throwing his way.

The Panthers corner has only been thrown at 30 times this season, the sixth lowest total in the league among cornerbacks who have played at least 50 percent of their team's defensive snaps. Even more impressive, Gamble has only allowed 11 receptions. That 36.7 percent rate is the third best in the NFL behind only Pittsburgh's Ike Taylor and New York Jets' Darrelle Revis.

God this game to me hurts more than any game besides the SB. Maybe I feel that way because I was there, uptown. That stadium went from being Psycho loud when Dwill ran it in for a TD on the third or second play or whatever to being the most depressed atmosphere I have ever seen. It was more than a Delhomme meltdown it was a BOA/Charlotte meltdown. I remember just hanging around the stadium afterwords with the other 3 guys that were left in the stadium, just feeling shocked. stoner rant over

Gamble still has a couple more years left in him. Just think how the respect he gets will help better the defense for the future kinda like what Revis does with the Jets. He allows them to do a lot of exotic things with there defensive gameplan well at least back when there defense was still playing really good. We just gotta add some more pieces to it and this defense its not that far away from being elite.
