Keyshawn Johnson brought up a what if carolina still had Pep? he would help that defense.

I'll give you Armanti as a bad pick at the time. I and a lot of people knew this was a stupid pick from the get go.

For example:

But Jarret in the 2nd round most people (fans and experts) thought it was a steal. Nobody could see he had a bad attitude and was a dummy before we drafted him. He was a top Wr in college with 40 td in his carear.

Jimmy Clausen in the 2nd round was consider a steal. He was rated a 1st round pick by all the experts. "Most pro ready QB" people said.

KJ is an idiot, Peppers does not want to play here. Get that through your fuging skull. Haynesworth should help any defense in the league according to how good he is, but he isn't because that has nothing to do with motivation or if they will actually play. Peppers is not a special player with all this heart for his team or the game, he is an individual who fulfills his needs and wants before any team. Regardless of how you feel about him,he simply would not help this defense because he does not want to be here or play here so how exactly would he help? Go back to 09 KJ when Beason had to call out Pep. He won't play if he isn't motivated, does this make him a bad athlete? Not at all but it does mean he is only going to help a team if he wants to.

I'm not as big of a Hurney-hater as some on here are, but I also don't understand how you can have potential back-to-back top 2 pick in the draft-type seasons and think your formula has been successful. I know about injuries and all, and I'm not asking for sparkly shiny FA's, but you gotta change the game up a little bit there Marty, cuz 2008 was a LLLLOOOONNNNGGGG time ago.

Here's what everybody has to remember: Marty Hurney didn't determine the direction of this team in 2010. Fox wanted his veteran players back in 09, so they gave Jake a big extension to free up cap room, signed Gross long term, franchised Peppers and brought basically the entire 2008 roster back for another year. As we all know, it didn't work out. After that, JR said "screw it, we're going with young guys, we're not handing out big contracts, and we're preparing for a potential lockout.". When Hurney has had the money to spend, he's mostly spent it well.

Also, got Ryan Kalil in the second round and Charles Johnson in the third round of that same draft. And Beason in the first. And Jarrett was the one of the four most fans were most excited about at the time, now he's the on they hold up as evidence that Hurney sucks.

Oh I know people were so hyped that we got Jarret in the 2nd round. Now they keep dogging hurney for the pick.

E Brown was a Fox pick. Plus he was rated the best Pass rusher going into the draft. He lead all of college in sacks that year. Everybody was happy we got him to. Some people on here thought he would replace Pep. Now they use him against Hurney.

chill the fug out just making conversation, something i seen on tv.this defense is sturggling and could use a pro bowler even if it is another DE. you think its luck that Hassleback ran a naked bootleg for 30 yards to put the game away last sunday. not when one DE losses contain (beck scored bc Hardy didnt keep contain), and does sturggle with the run as well.

Probably #1 in the league. But the same question could be asked about the offense who is worse at every one of those things. And even if the offense fixed all of that, they would still only be average.

So they may have all-world talent, but we'll never know because they aren't playing well together as a team, huh? Fox was heavily criticized here because he wasn't developing players, but nowadays it's all about Hurney not finding players worth developing.

FWIW, the other stuff you posted is interesting, but I'm not too concerned about the offensive side. That's where the rookie-ness of our QB is the most exposed, and I expect we'll get a lot better there.

Yes, I think the defense is playing poorly, as evidenced by the points allowed (30th), yards per play (T-28th), 3rd down conversions allowed (28th), Opposing QB rating (28th), sacks (26th), and rushing average (25th), all put together by a unit that's 11th in time of possession. So basically, they aren't on the field as much as most, but they're giving up yards and points at one of the highest rates in the league.

Granted, this is just my opinion. I don't think they're playing well, which is why they get the results they've gotten. But maybe they really are doing great, I've certainly been wrong before. I just don't see it yet. :)

I doubt he understands these early criticisms are highly unwarranted at this point in time. Despite people's witch hunt for Hurney, he has a very solid record drafting players in the last few years since Don Gregory has joined the team.

Also, I doubt he realizes that most of the criticisms Hurney is taking is directly contributed to the trades that were made in 2008 and 2009 to help save Fox's job.. Yes, I think he is to blame for signing off on the idea, but what else would a friend do in tough times? Completely amplifying the AE trade and wouldn't be known as a trend, but a first occurance..
