I'm glad we got Captain out of 2009. Sherrod is solid, but I would prefer more of a playmaker at the S position. Just a personal preference :P

It looks like about 3 players per draft pan out. I think Hardy will be the best pick from 2010, and I think Gettis and LaFell will end up being here for a little while. Cam, McClain, and Hogan are my guesses for 2011.

Honestly, Hurney would have to have been a mongoloid to choose anyone but Cam with the first this year. So I don't even give him credit for that. He's a terrible drafter.

The guy needs to be fired. Before this offseason we didn't do anything to upgrade our team. His terrible decision-making during the Jake Delhomme/Julius Peppers years basically screwed us for multiple years beyond. Then when he finally DID get money to spend this year he ties most of it up in a RB that was not a necessity and a chronically injured linebacker. Granted, those guys were fan favorites and it would have been hard to see them go (especially if Deangelo tore it up with a team like Denver).

BUT...Hurney basically did nothing to communicate with his coaches about the plan for the RBs and now we have the most expensive RB in the league who at the same time never touches the ball.

We all know what he did with Delhomme (ridiculous extension) and Peppers (franchise after franchise then ultimately losing him). While he is getting better at drafting players in deeper rounds...his first years were terrible. Just too many mistakes IMO to keep him around.

dude have u not seen how utterly inept teams like the lions, rams, raiders and browns were and for how long? 2 absolute crap years, whatever, ill take it as long as we are seeing improvement. the only teams that have sustained success as of late in the nfl (because it is REALLY hard to do) are teams with elite franchise quarterbacks or unbelievable defense/STs (jets, ravens). well now we have one, and hes completely unique.

This last statement is why it sucks to be a Panthers fan sometimes. We are so conditioned to mediocrity that you are feeling good about this year despite being 2-7, and in all likelihood finishing with maybe 3 or 4 wins. And if it was two absolute crap years to get better, I'd be happy. But the decisions made by these guys sometimes just baffle me.

I know I'm not an NFL front office guy, but let's see the forest for the trees here. We sucked bad last year. Yeah, we got Cam out of it, and then a bunch of unknowns. Maybe Hogan's ACL will be a non-factor and he will rock. Maybe Fua and McClain will have the light turn on and rock the poo for years. But Otah's looking more and more like a bust, so while we thought we had a stud RT, we are now going to have to spend our 2nd or 3rd overall pick on Kalil.

Then we are going to have to draft some linebacker insurance, because Davis is probably toast and while everyone thinks Beason is Jesus Christ himself, there is a very good chance that we are only going to get 75-80% of the Beason we used to have.

The contract we gave to Williams will probably make us lose Stewart, so a good RB is going to be a problem in a year or two also.

Yes Smitty looks rejuvinated here, but he's not under contract for much longer, and isn't getting younger. Eventually, he will need to be replaced. LaFell has looked decent when he's on the field, but he's rarely on by most accounts because he's an idiot and doesn't know the plays going into week 11. Legatron is nobodys long term solution to anything.

So while people see a bright future because of Cam Newton and Ryan Kalil, I see a team, although it does have potential, has glaring holes or question marks at 2 out of 3 linebacker positions, receiver, defensive tackle, offensive tackle, offensive guard, cornerback, kicker, punter...

I'm not intentionally being the negative guy here, because I am generally VERY optimistic, but every year I hear about how adding free agents isn't our MO to success, but I don't see the success anywhere, which leads me to think that either some philosophical changes or some management personnel changes are in order.
