So I need to get a Passport

Is there a way to make an appointment at the agency? I'd hate to stand in a DMVish type line.

(I haven't been allowed out of the country because of possible international incidents)

Depends on the office. There should be at least one in a Charlotte sized city that does take appointments.

I am living in Raleigh and drove to the Johnston County courthouse, and they don't make you have an appointment, and there was no line. I just walked up to the clerk of court and gave them my stuff and wrote them a check.

Check local county courthouses to see if they issue passports. If you try to go to the post office, they will make you have an appointment.

I went to the Post Office, got in line and was done in 20 minutes. This was in Gastonia.

You can do it downtown at the passport office you just need to get your picture taken at rite aid

I got "civilian" passport done at the Post Office in Fayetteville. They did everything right there, picture and all. I'd call your PO and see if they do it there as well.

Got mine within 10 days.

I just got mine last month. Went to the Carmel Post office around 11:00am on a Wednesday and waited about 10 minutes for the guy in front of me because he filled out the wrong form. Other than that, it was really pretty quick.
