Rivera's Monday Press Conference

i'm starting to view this whole season as one big preseason.

I had that mindset going in and have kept it throughout. This is a rebuilding year. It's like when Cam came out and played so well everyone thought we were Super Bowl bound.

Give it some time, guys. We're young, banged up, and the coaching staff is still adjusting to the players they have. All things considered I think we're way ahead of schedule. TBH, the Titans game was how I expected us to look the majority of the season back in August.

We had one bad game, our first real bad game of the season. That's pretty good all things considered. I think some folks here need to get some perspective and understand that we were 2-14 a year ago and that the turnaround is not going to be instant. A team like the 49ers are a lot older and more experienced than we are and a lot healthier on defense. You can't compare us to them; it's a completely different situation.

We're heading in the right direction overall. We have some issues to work out, yes, but nothing that can't be fixed. I hate that so many 'fans' here go nuts after every loss or bad play. Calm down; did you really expect us to be THAT good this year? I watch games now and take what positives I can from them and move on.

If you'd have told me before the season that we'd have Cam playing the way he has, a banged up and struggling defense, and an awful special teams, I'd have been thrilled because it'd tell me that the most important aspect of the season was a success: developing our future franchise QB. The other things can be fixed, but we now have the most important piece of the puzzle in place and that's a WHOLE lot more than we've been able to say in years past.

Interview is up

lol at Rivera's face at 1:45 after being asked if he's satisfied with the ST coach.

After seeing that, I feel better about the coaching aspect. At the least, he is saying all the right things. Being that he is in his first year, he gets a pass in my eyes.

All I hear is talk.

Same players making the same mistakes.

Same penalties from the same players.

etcetera.

fug wins, from here on out, all I want to see is improvement week-to-week. From the coaches down.

this should have been your mindset all along....then you wouldn't be as frustrated as you are now.

No one can expect us to go to the playoffs in the first year...its just unreasonable...yeah it could happen with some luck but it definitely should not be something you were ever considering.

Speaking of penalties, i've yet to see the biggest phantom roughing the passer call when nobody touched Hasselback. What were they looking at? Judgement calls need to be reviewed, i'm sorry, or atleast challenged, with a seperate challenge from normal ones.

I remember the roughing the pass call. it was awful. But it didn't lead to any points for them so it's not worth us, as fans, spending anytime crying about it. I do hope the coaches sent a tape in to the leagues.

There needs to be an age cap on NFL officials because I'm pretty sure the lead official was around 70 years old.

that's how i started the year, but man, those guys just looked so good on offense so early i just went ahead and leaped in.

i said it over and over again heading into the season that i predominately wanted to see potential to be great and growth.

the only phase of the game i haven't seen growth in is special teams. defense has been slowly progressing, but we all know that things will dramatically improve with beason back in there. if we had him, TD, and ron edwards active things wouldn't have looked nearly as pathetic as they got.

the offense is what got me to drink a few gallons too many of the kool aid.

now i just want to see how they recover from the titanic beat down.

i've seen plenty, though, to let me know we are on to something special going forward.

I know your comment was directed at someone else but still wish to give my 2 cents...

I expected 5 or 6 wins, especially after seeing that Newton was going to be a very capable QB. I did not expect to see a team this undisciplined. I did not expect to see a #2 WR that would be 4th on the majority of teams in the league. Nor did I expect to see first year practice squad players on the field as part of our D (ST maybe, but not our D).

Many thought we were a close to average team if we fixed the QB position. That might have been a bit of a stretch, but I don't believe anyone would have expected us to be the 2nd worst team in the league after 9 games.

We certainly didn't expect to be this bad and to be nearly maxed out on the cap going into next year.

Those of you that think it is irrational for fans to be upset with the results so far are the ones that are not being very realistic.

And no, I for one am not one of those that want to blow everything up and fire the whole staff, but their progress at this point is a bit disappointing and we need to show a lot more over the final games to feel good going into next year.

The old Italian saying, '...don't sh*t were you eat'.

The same is true for Rivera.

If you are going to have your team come out and leave a pile of pig manure in its wake, do not do it at BofA in Charlotte.

Keep that home crowd at least pacified.

This team needs to learn that. I don't want to hear one of them, players or coaches, complain about 'fan' support.

Do your job and you will get fan support.

"oh...if we only had that genius GM that gave a 35 year old QB a $90mil/5 year contract after his second neck surgery in two years and just before his third only to find out that he may never play again we would be so much better off!!!"

very interesting point.. soooo many on this forum bash Hurney, who has put together competitive teams without a legit QB threat.. yet praise Bill Polian for being one of the best drafting GMs in the league, who has no team worth a poo without 1 guy they drafted over 14 years ago..
