Rivera's Monday Press Conference

Q: Are you satisfied with Coach Murphy?

RR: Don't ask that, yes I am satisfied.

-Rivera says they set the tone early. Kind of snowballed.

-Concerned about the guys on Special Teams not doing their job well enough. Didn't want to answer question about his satisfaction with our ST Coach, but did make excuses for him. Says it's a hard job, especially when you are shuffling players.

-Losing Beast and TD was a huge blow in terms of losing leadership. Cam, 89, Gross, Shock have all stepped up to be leaders-but we lack that defensively.

-Says Connor was a good ST guy, but it isn't doing it now because he's a starter-stuff like that hurts us, though Connor does play punt team.

-Says we played yesterday the way people expected us to play beginning of the year. Have got to handle this adversity.

[Ruff]

- Asked what happened to the offense that's been running so well, Rivera said they "had the wind taken out of their sail" with the punt return + the fumble in the red zone.

- Said they "felt good about what they wanted to do" against the Titans, but it didn't really work out.

- Rivera said he's "concerned" that the guys that are doing the job aren't doing it well enough.

- Asked if he knows who the leaders are, Rivera said when "you lose a Jon Beason or a Thomas Davis" you lose your leaders, and "you look for someone to step up". Said Cam's a leader, as well as Steve Smith and Shockey.

- Said Dan Connor was supposed to be a full-time special teams player, and now that he starts, it's taken that away.

- Asked if you just take this tape and throw it away, and Rivera emphatically said "No. You take this tape and you learn from it." Said every team has a bad game, and it's "how you bounce back from it".

- Rivera said he was "embarrassed".

- Said the chippiness in the last two minutes of the game was "frustrating", with both teams. Said "when's a games like that, just play it out... Do your job." Said there should be more "pride" in winning and losing.

- Said we're "developing a football team." Have two young DTs "that have played really, really well." Wants the young guys to play.

--Yesterday's loss was embarrassing. Penalties, last two minutes, especially. Have got to dig deeper from a character standpoint. This is gut-check time, will be making tough decisions the next 7 weeks, seeing who really wants it. Says it's hard enough to accept losing, even worse with yesterday's case.

--Really upset with how players acted near end of game-Titan's players included.

--Say's 2 young DTs have played well, mentioned Neblett's and Bits by name. Says Keiser played well.

--Mentioned San Fran's quick turn around thanks to their experience.

--Ryan Kalil is fine, Shockey is banged up. Connor got a stinger. but should be fine.

- Said Kalil is fine. Said Shockey is "a little more sore" will have an MRI to make sure it's okay. Dan Connor got a stinger.

- Said it's Shockey's "ribs and hip". And it happened on the first play of the game.

--Keeps using the term chippy to describe some of the cheap shots back and forth between the two teams. Says we have to learn to walk away, because we kept ending up on the wrong side of those flags.

i think this is my biggest issue with the play calling. when your special teams consistently suck, you do everything you can to keep it out of their hands.
