DeAngelo Williams

Stewart's well suited to being his own blocker. Williams, not so much.

Anybody here really wanna try and say the offensive line is fine? Seriously?

and before the season started....Williams was pimped as the RB who didn't need the holes like Stewart. Williams could make his own is what was said.

OL isn't the issue. Overall they are pass protecting well considering the amount we are passing(just not Sunday) and run blocking well enough. Stewart is finding holes and looking good. Stewart is consisntantly running well just hasn't broken a huge one. Williams is consistantly running poorly and broke a huge one.

Offensive line is doing the best they can with Bell at RT. He is a weak link but they overall this year have played well considering Bell is in there. Cam has gotten pretty good protection and Stewart when asked to run is consistantly doing his job.

Odd man in the equation is DeAngelo.

The right side is the most glaring issue, but in reality Gross isn't a dominant run blocker either. Not that he sucks, mind you. he just isn't a road grader type.

I'll give you that Williams doesn't look quite like he used to, but I'm not convinced that he suddenly sucks. Like I said, put a better o-line in place and then we can talk.

you don't pay your LT to be a dominant run blocker in today's NFL.

Didn't think you were, but others are.

Williams and Stewart are different runners. Each has their own strengths and weaknesses. Our situation right now plays more to Stewart's strengths, but with a better O-Line you have more chances to see what Williams can do.

.

with a better OL you have more chances to see what Stewart can do. That isn't unique to Williams.

Appearing on Sunday NFL Countdown alongside Chris Mortensen, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that “at least two teams” called the Carolina Panthers last week regarding the availability of running back DeAngelo Williams.

The teams were reportedly informed that Williams is “unavailable.” As is running back Jonathan Stewart.

The NFL trade deadline is two Tuesdays from now. Despite an 0-4 start, the Panthers apparently aren’t ready to give up on the season by trading their starting running back for draft picks that could be used to build for the future.

According to Schefter, "at least" two teams have called the Panthers recently about Williams, but the overtures were rebuffed. Stewart, cheaply under contract through 2012, definitely isn't going anywhere. Williams is in a contract year and would be the more likely of the two to be dealt, but it sounds like Carolina isn't even willing to listen to offers.

The reason is a confluence of things which, unsurprisingly, none of you mouth breathers have been able to stumble upon.

What!?!?

You mean that the real world is complicated and that a simple 30 second gut reaction is most likely wrong?

Could it be that we actually got a deal since we signed him before all these other wannabes started using his deal to "get theirs"?

Perhaps the reason he isn't getting the production has to do with the current scheme and Chud's need to get Cam moar reps in game throwing than DWill needs running..

Hunh, we thought we were in a rebuilding year last year when it actually was a complete waste for about 75% of the team. Maybe, Ron thinks that his job this year is to find a nucleus out of this team and take the next 2 years putting the pieces into place to develop a *gasp* playoff contender for the SB?

If that was your focus, perhaps you'd like to have two running backs that have different yet similar skills to confuse defenses. You might even pay a pretty penny for that capability.

I am reminded though, that in the long run, we are all dead.

Definitely call a miscommunication between Hurney and Rivera on this one. Both should have know what type of offense was going to be ran here, and both should have known who better suits this offense.

Hurney's fug-ups piles on, Rivera's is just starting.

no one will ever raise a valid point on DWill getting that contract and using that money towards a vet CB or DT..

should he have been willing to sign for a reasonable contract, we could have done both..

I'm not sure if the dynamic exists where DWill restructures his contract after this year.. however, it will be a MAJOR fail (yet again) if Hurney doesn't restructure that contract the following year, should there be no real trade value..
