Byron Bell CAN turn into a stalwart plugin at RT for us if he continues to grow and maintains the right attitude toward getting better

just like

Jeff Otah can return to his former self and be the dominant road grader he once was as long as he gains his confidence back in the knee and truly wants to return to greatness.

These and many other possibilities are out there for the Panthers.

Instead of everyone trying to jump in one boat or the other with their "look at me" flag at the ready gambling on which one will actually come to fruition, why don't you wait. AND HOPE FOR THE BEST.

We don't give away crystal ball or genie awards here. And even if we did it would not mean anything.

Seems like as soon as somebody gets a good vibe going about one player or another in a desperate attempt to make it through this long off season someone else is there to stomp the poo out of it will all sorts of matter of fact contradictions. And it comes from both sides.

NOBODY knows. NOBODY is gonna get a medal if they GUESSED it correctly in June.

I've never heard so much hate on a UFA who got considerable starting time as a rookie in my life. Conversely. I've NEVER heard the term "play through the pain" used a fraction as much as it has been used here in consideration of a 330 pound man coming off a major injury... to his fuging knee!

Its like the more you clowns say it the more it sounds OK. Who is the last NFL player who was universally crucified for not "playing through pain"? There is a difference between playing through pain and there being something wrong with your body that needs to be fixed. To add there is a psychological factor that is magnified by a factor of 330 pounds, an entire adult life in front of him, a family?

Sick to my stomach is the perfect thread title... again.

Anyone who would expect an undrafted free agent right tackle to come in as a rookie with no offseason or training camp and be thrust into a starting role when the starter goes down and play at a high level right off the bat has no clue about the NFL.

The same person who thinks that they couldn't be better next year after starting in a league for a year, having an offseason and training camp to prepare knowing they could very well be the starter, doesn't understand the concept of learning through experience.

And the guys who keep bumping old threads instead of starting a new Bell thread are annoying at best.

except for the most elite and incredibly rare of rookie OTs...they are all going to look like they have roller skates on their feet for the first year, sometimes first couple years. they look horrible. they look like bell did last year.

BUT....they can and usually do get better the next year and the year after that, esp. if the coaches work with them and they get some experience.

whether bell starts or not, he will be a lot better next year or at least it should be expected. a year of experience under his belt plus the benefit of a full offseason's worth of preparation and training should help him get much better.

just throwing around the "well he sucks and that's all there is to it" when the coaching staff (who knows a lot more than anyone in here) is saying very much the contrary shows an incredible amount of ignorance.

yeah good thing we don't have people on the staff who think this way despite the people that read between he lines every time the name "Otah" is floated toward Coach Riv and somehow come away from the interview with the understanding that Riv has given up, thrown in the towel, and otherwise totally written off the chances for Jeff Otah.

I guess some of these people around here think the staff is as clueless as they are personally.

true.

i don't have a dog in the "otah v. bell" fight (not that there's many who believe in either guy). i don't actually care who wins it or who stays or go.

until proven otherwise, i'm going to trust the direction that the coaching staff is going and i'm not going to try to read between any lines.

until otah is cut, i'm going to believe that he can and will be a force on the OL when he's on that field and i most certainly hope that he makes his way there because there are few in the league who can be as dominant as him.

i think bell did well considering his situation and, as i said, i think he will get better.

with those two and campbell, i think the right side of the OL is in good shape. i'm not going to worry about who gets the job and i'm not going to bitch about any of them.

it will all shake out and the OL will continue to be among the best in the league.

picking at fat people is the last acceptable prejudice and Otah has his share of body fat and someone elses. Along with that, some of these these immature fools will never understand why some players arent willing to cripple themselves for their entertainment on a Sunday afternoon.

First, Bell should be improved from last year. However, he will have to make a huge jump to just get past average. Fortunately, if average is our weak link, we should be fine.

Second, I love his hands and how he fends people off. It is his lower body that gets him in trouble. Maybe a full off-season of film and prep will have an impact on his performance. IMO, he plays stiff. Like he is thinking, not playing. Give him some training and maybe he can get more comfortable.

Third, I would prefer Otah show up this year as he is a more dominant player. I however, do fell Bell, even at average, is good enough to get our line play right.

Lastly, if it really bothers you that someone bumps a thread...Threre are three paths you can follow. Ignore said thread, participate in said thread, or post your displeasure and let everyone know you are unhappy at having the thread bumped in the first place.

Just some thoughts. And GOOOOOOOOOO CATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
