So who do you want with our 3rd overall pick?

Works every time. Longest pass today was 18 yards. And it was to a tight end.

Lafell. Naanee. They're no Mushin. I sure as hell don't want another QB. We need a #2 WR. And O-men. To run.

our tight ends are our #2 receivers.

The problem is Olsen played like poo and Shockey was hurt.

Seriously, do you think any team since week 3 has gone into a game without the goal to stop Steve Smith? heh

Getting a #2 WR would be nice, but I think we have bigger holes elsewhere, on defense and on the o-line.

Calvin Johnson had 48 catches 837 yards 7 TDs

then 54 catches 888 yards 6 TDs

In two of his seasons as well, you have to look at the QB and the piss poor offense they have been playing as a team.

Imagine Jefferey on OKST or OU etc...

He will be a first round pick and be productive in the NFL.

Calvin Johnson was also a guy who showed that he cared about football by staying in top-notch condition. Dude looks like he could break you in half.

Jeffrey? Looks like he had an extra bucket of KFC.

That's a problem. We only have one good tight end and he fumbles. The other one's got a year left in him.

And our QB isn't a 65%-70% passer in order to run a Saint's style or GB style offense. So we need 2 elite receivers that can go up and fight for the ball. Lafell is ok, but he's no #2. Neither is Gettis because I have a feeling this injury's going to set him back.

We'd actually be really good if we could just have 2 guys that can stretch the field vertically, scale back to one tight end, and forget the short pass attack because Cams not going to be that type of QB, imo. And let him, a slot receiver, one tight end and the running backs take care of short downs, while the the 2 wideouts taking care of the vertical field.

I think that would fix our offense being one dimensional. The Titans shut us down because they knew he wouldn't be accurate and quick enough to pass consistently in 5-7 yards increments like Brees or Rodgers does and he would end up being our running game. So tackle Steve..and that took away our vertical attack..and then spy Cam. And you killed our passing and running game.

But in order to even get here, we need our running game back. And in order to get that back consistently, we need to stop running the pistol so much. So he needs to take more snaps under center, pump fake(his pump fake in the pocket sucks). He has a good play fake to the running backs, but pump fake is horrible, unless he's on the run. He was doing this more in the first couple of games. Tuck and run is fine too if we're trying to just get a short down. Works out better to just go for it.

He doesn't pump fake because he doesn't have timing down and we run the pistol a lot. It's easier to do when under center. So he's always "waiting and looking" for the receivers to get open. This hurts himself in interceptions because defenses can just wait and watch his eyes, and it hurts our receivers because he's not helping them by throwing off defenders. What should happen is pump fake in another direction and then release the other way while trusting your receiver will beat his man and be in the right spot, knowing all along where you're going to to throw. Lead your defenders away form your receivers with your eyes and pump fake. He doesn't have this part down from what I'm seeing.

I agree with a lot that you said but we can find field stretchers later in the draft. It will be a lot harder to find that franchise left tackle in round two and below.

We have a guy who showed ability to stretch the field last year in Gettis. I don't think taking a WR #1 is a good idea when most games are not being lost because we lack receiving targets, but because of other deficiencies. Our offense is far, far from our biggest problem on this team as a whole, and WR is after OL as far as that goes IMO.

As to Cam not being a "65-70%" guy or whatever bullpoo that is, no rookie is so I have no idea what you mean there. There's absolutely no reason to think that Cam will be stuck where he is forever. His strength is a vertical offense but that doesn't mean you can't utilize tight ends.

Cam was proficient in the short passing game at Auburn at times. Not necessarily in a "NO/GB" way or whatever, but he is capable of making those throws. He just needs some work.

Our running game "not being back" is all about play calling, but it's not all about whether Cam is under center or not. It's about the way Chud abandons the run game and how he dislikes finding ways to get our running backs the ball in space.

I'm excited about actually having a 2nd round pick too...

But I see the Panthers finishing 5-11 with the likelihood of picking 5-8...

and w/ Gettis coming back and LaFell and Smitty... no need to draft a top WR imho

We need DT! but doesn't look like there's a top talent DT in this draft, which kinda sucks... but with a 5th-8th pick we should take either one of the CB from LSU/Alabama.

But we need a top DT first and foremost imo

But if we did end up w/ the 3rd pick, it'd be hard not to draft Kalil...although I see Indy or STL taking him...Luck going to Miami... Blackmon would end up w/ STL if Indy takes Luck or Kalil...

You can't compare college to the NFL. Obviously that didn't work Sunday because that's what he was left with after the vertical passing game was taken out.

I think our running game has everything to do with us running the style offense that we do. It's not simply play calling. The offense itself is designed in this manner, so there are very few plays in that playbook that incorporates running when the snap is taken from under center.

That's the other issue with our passing game. Not enough I-variant formations. And we can't run them if we don't have a QB that's good at passing out of them too. It requires taking a snap from under center, often turning around, faking a hand-off, then turning back around and throwing an accurate pass -NOT- off your back foot. This is a little harder to do.

Wanna see our problem against Tennessee and why our run game sucks?

At DT, you need Edwards back and one other veteran DT to add to the two young rookies. Another Rookie DT will not make a difference for several years....unless there is a Suh in this draft...which there isn't

Football is a team sport.

The GB Packers won the Super Bowl last year after putting like a dozen guys on IR earlier in the year. Yes, they have a great QB, but still, the Panthers are sunk if one or two players go down.

What we need, and I have no confidence in Hurney to do this, is to trade down, gather more picks and build up the value at every position on the team.

As of today, the best scenario would be to trade down with Cleveland especially if they are not enthused with McCoy who they have little invested in anyway.

The Panthers get the 10th and 18th picks.

At 10, we get one of the stud CB's from LSU or Alabama.

At 18, we take a the DT from Clemson or the tackle from Stanford.

Second round, BPA, hopefully depth at LB.

We have no third rounder, which is not good for a team needing so much.

    • The examples are so many it is pathetic. These are professionals. There is zero reason laypeople or amateur draftniks should be better than our FO. Unless you are a Millen-esque GM. Somehow we have had several. Maybe Mike Mayock is a good recent comp? One good draft out of three and basically just a TV guy.
