There's a new Wasp in town, LP. Was commissioned right before I retired...

It's a helicopter carrier...

The Wasp was stationed in Boston. My father was there when I was 1-5 yrs old. I remember going on that ship. (Unfortunately I do not remember the Red Sox games he took me to.) The naval housing we lived in was across the street from the ocean. I did not know how special that was. (Understand naval housing is gone from there now...sure it is prime property).

My father was supposed to retire at 20 yrs....then there was the Cuban missile crisis. He had to stay another year. I do not thing he minded...he loved the Navy.

My father never talked about the war. He died 23 years ago. I wished I had asked him about it. Guys of his time just did not talk about it. Maybe none of them do.

I will say again...cannot imagine what they went through, or the courage it took to do what they did...or those who do it for us today.

I appreciate everyone who has served or is serving now.
