A couple of AP quick hits for you

No specific source, just what I have been informed by someone who works for a television affiliate. They receive AP video and news all the time and he is a avid Carolina Panthers fan. This is all pertaining to the draft:

1) Josh Freeman recently had a private workout with the Carolina Panthers and there was a total of 8 scouts there looking at him.

2) One interesting scenerio that is being speculated about is possibility that the Carolina Panthers may possibly be looking at trading up into the first round and give up a first round pick next year.

3) Not really panther related but more draft related. According to some scouts, Josh Freeman may not be the third QB off the board. In fact, his draft status may wind up in the 2nd round.

I know, most of you will not believe this but thats ok because again, its all pure speculation until draft day right?

Personally, I'll take any news at this time of the year, especially with the Panthers rather slow offseason. Your points make sense, and it had been reported that the Panthers were looking to bring Freeman in for a workout. It'll be interesting to see if the Panthers can pull off trading back into the 1st round; the only questions would be is this with or without the inevitable JP trade? Thanks for sharing just the same.

The only thing I heard about JP was that teams are willing to take him for 2 2nd round picks

i'm torn about that second one. if the team is really anxious to win now....i can see it happening. trade peppers and you will likely end up with an extra 1st next year. that's about the only way i can really see it happening.

how much would we have to give up this year to get us a 1st, though? it would have to be one incredible player.

I figure if they are speculating about giving a first next year for one this year they know inevitably they will trade Peppers and get the first back. I also don't seeing Peppers going for a 2 2nds. If Allen can get a first and 2 3rds, then Peppers should easily get the same deal. Unlike last year there are no real dominant pass rushers out there in the draft. There are a few guys who could develop but not many sure things. Which makes getting Peppers a need for teams with no pass rush. I expect things to heat up in the next 3 weeks.

I've heard that the Panthers really want to get back into the first round. I've also heard it may be for a QB, but with Fox's reported reluctance to take a QB in round 1 (because they take too long to develop), I sort of dismissed the idea. But now that they have worked out Freeman, and since at this point he is almost a virtual lock to go in the first, I think there may be more credence to this report than I initially gave it.

Perhaps they feel that Jake only has a couple of years left (I have no doubt he will eventually be extended), and by that time, whoever they pick will be ready to step in. I guess if they don't feel Moore is the future, then this is definitely the time to bring in a QB to develop...and with a couple of year's development, Freeman has all the skills to be very good.

Waiting for the dumbass to sign his tender.

JP: (In caveman voice) Me no play for Panther no more! Me want to be gone. Me potential not going to be better. Me going to wait to sign paper.......why me not gone yet?!! :banghead:

After all these shenanigans I find that Orange Julius does not give 100 % either....gives me a bad aftertaste now.

Ha! He has been told by the guy he wants to be his next coach to "sign the tender" But 2 weeks later he still hasn't. This tells me, he doesn't want to leave. He has gotten bad advise from his "friend" and now he is trying to figure a way out.

I wonder if they really do trade next year's #1 to move back into the first, if they would be willing to take a second round pick this year and a first next year. Sometimes giving up future picks is like playing with Monopoly money, it doesn't seem as real as what's right in front of you (this year's draft). So some team may be willing to go for that.

However, my problem with this scenerio is that we still really need a penetrating DT that can collapse the pocket, as well as a pass rushing DE to replace Peppers. And to move back into the first, we would probably have to give up a similar package to what we did last year (1st, 2nd, and 4th). So, assuming we're left with one second rounder, I don't know that we can fill both spots. Of course it would be possible to get one of the DT's like Moala with our 2nd, then hope someone like Sidbury is there for our 3rd, but that's a pretty big gamble.

I REALLY hope they don't trade back into the first this year to do that.

As I said elsewhere, I think they would be in a better position to draft one high next year.
