Shock wants long-term deal

I say give him a 3 year deal.

After half a season in Carolina, Panthers tight end Jeremy Shockey knows he’s in the place he wants to be for the long haul.

Shockey, who signed a one-year, $4 million contract with the Panthers this year, told the Charlotte Observer that he thinks the team is building something great and he’s hoping he’ll be a part of it for years to come.

“You see people grow and you know it’s going to be a special team. You want to be a part of that,” Shockey said. “You were here when new coaches came and developed. You don’t want to be somewhere else because you put so much hard work in and you’ve seen people grow. And the only thing it’s going to do is get better and better.”

i want him to stay but i also want to see what we have in gary barnidge

Agreed, we need at least 2 or 3 pass catching TE's for this offense. Hate Gary got injured, it'd be interesting to know what kind of production and how many touches we'd be getting out of him.

I was hopeful for Barnidge when he was playing. But I think it is time to move on. Absolutely sign Shockey, he is an asset and a solid #2 TE. Barnidge can be kept for depth or whatever, but I wouldn't substitute him for Shockey, ever.

Couple years down the road, look to the draft or FA to replace Shockey when he is done. Until then he can produce.
