Gruden to talk about Cam Pre-Season and Now on ESPN...

He then gave Cam a chance to explain what 36 was and draw it up but he didn't. And how is he the one making a big deal of it? He doesn't edit the things himself.

I don't think that makes Cam dumb and clearly it doesn't affect his ability to comprehend a playbook but he didn't do that part of the interview well at all. The rest of his QB Camp went fine and IIRC Gruden praised him after it was aired.

It's called a loaded question. He knew the play calling system at Auburn, so he knew that the most "verbal" play call Cam could come up with would be something like "36", so why bother asking the question unless you have an agenda?

Gruden's a smart guy, his agenda was to feed into the notion that Cam was not smart enough to run an NFL offense.

He made a point of giving a very complex play call as an example and then asked Cam for his most complex play call, which was a silly thing to ask when you know that Auburn's play calling consisted of a simple numbering scheme.

It would be the same as asking Ryan Mallet what his 40 time was after pointing out what Vick's 40 time is.

So far Gruden wasn't wrong because we're not running an NFL style offense. Why aren't we?

Not true. We are running a pro-style AC offense with a sprinkling of pistol, option, and wildcat plays.

I haven't seen any flashcards on the sideline. Have you?

We run some elements of college style offenses but if you watch the games we have some many different sets and configurations it's just one facet. We also run a lot of double tight end sets, single back, even an occasional I form. We are like 4 or 5th in the league in offense efficiency. Hell, we could probably run the option all day long tbh because no one has actually stopped it yet.

Jeez you people are sensitive. Gruden was ridiculously positive in his QB camp. Gruden himself never said anything bad about Cam it was bloggers who came to the conclusion after watching it.

He DID say that it was going to be more complicated in the NFL, and Newton would have to adjust to it. That was 100% true. He never once said Cam wasn't smart enough nor did he say he wouldn't be able to do it, he just said it would be like a different language.

I still haven't seen the new one though. Anyone got a video?

Gruden should of asked Cam about the play calling. It had to be a huge adjustment to go from Auburn where he just said a number to the complex play calling of the NFL. I don't see why it wasn't a valid question. I'm sure Hurney and Rivera had the same questions about Cam.

Honestly, a lot of the option plays have been very successful. We've run that outside shovel/qb run option quite a few times and it has worked almost every time. The Lb just freezes deciding between Cam and Williams/Stewart.
