BTW I have a question about the cap hit numbers you have

I'm just using DWill's as an example, not suggesting we cut him or anything, but you say we'd take a $21 million dollar cap hit if we cut him this offseason.. correct me if I'm wrong(I probably am), but isn't the guaranteed money on a contract spread out evenly for each year of the contract? so if he played one year, wouldn't the cap hit be somewhere around $16 million? or are you including base salary in this?

That's the maximum amount worst case scenario number. His contract is one of the most complicated, most of the cut numbers are just straight signing bonuses and pretty straight forward. There are various scenarios regarding DWill that would effect what the actual number would be. Without pulling up the numbers I believe best case would be somewhere in the neighborhood of 14 million, so a large number regardless. Don't expect him to go anywhere, not for at least another season or two.

naw I'm not saying we should cut DWill, I still think the pass heavy offense we're seeing now is just something to see what we've got with Cam(something along those lines..) and we'll revert back to running the ball a LOT more next year

was just curious because I know the only thing that count against future cap numbers is guaranteed money, and figured since next year DWill's contract would be 4 years, the cap hit would be smaller

TD doesn't have a salary for next season, that's minus 5 million right there. If they keep him at the contract he gets an 8 million dollar roster bonus in the off season though.

Honestly the team will probably cut Wharton, (worst LG in the NFL based off advanced stats) Then use one of the clauses to spread his cap out more. It saves the team roughly 6.5 million. Restructure Gross, Gamble and Smith. That would free up another 6-12 million off the books.

Before draft picks that puts Carolina roughly around 96-101 Million, counting draft picks 106-110. Puts them roughly 15-19 million under the cap with 3 moves.

when every team has to start spending 90% of the cap we will see alot of players either restructure or get cut. it's likely this is the last season you see teams with boat loads of cap space. scouting & player development will be the key to our long term success.

This is how I see things going.

Restructure/Extend

Chris Gamble, DB...............$9,950,000 ($8,400,000)

Jordan Gross, OT...............$9,500,000 ($2,000,000)

Steve Smith, WR................$9,450,000 ($1,700,000)

DeAngelo Williams, RB........$9,200,000 ($21,800,000)- Push money to the back end of the contract.

Cut

Travelle Wharton, OG.........$8,100,000 ($2,400,000)- may restructure by I am guessing cut

Thomas Davis, OLB.............$5,900,000 ($5,600,000)- resign with smaller contract

Armanti Edwards, WR..........$792,500 ($355,000)

Mike Goodson, RB...............$823,000 ($123,000)

Jason Baker, P...................$1,612,500 ($62,500)

These cuts will save the team 8,687,500 on the cap

Possible cut

Olinda Mare, K...................$3,200,000 ($3,000,000)
