they didn't have to let williams walk. they just had no business flying off the deep end to sign him.

no one was going to pay him anywhere near what carolina did.

They could have traded him last year or if they let him walk we could have got a 3rd rd pick comp for him.

We should give Shockey an extension, if he wants one TES can play for a long time look at Tony Gonz for the falcons. I do have a feeling that Shockey might want more than hes worth which in my mind means we should let him go because we need to spend money elsewhere. I think we should resign Barnidge and give him one last chance. Thomas Davis is more than likely gone, he did play well when on the field so I guess the injuries haven't slowed him down any. I would love to keep him by restructuring his contract. I wouldn't mind seeing Connor leave because in my opinion he isn't that good and we need some better depth at LB even though we will have Beason back next year.

We need to restructure Gamble for sure. I think he is having a great year but he isn't worth what we are paying him. Could Otah be gone? Bell has done a decent job but we are only paying him 2 million a year so why not keep him until his contract runs out.

Applewhite is defiantly a keeper but will he come cheap?

Do we really need Naanee? he can block well and could be a decent #4 WR but with Gettis coming back will we even need him?

Garry Williams, Schwartz, Bernadeau, and Hangartner could all stay and we could probably keep them all for very cheap prices.

I loved Thomas Williams in the preseason and I have seen him make some decent plays this year but the way our defense is playing do we need to keep any linebackers besides Anderson and Gaither?

When the draft comes around I say we draft Justin Blackmon. I know we already are set at WR but Smith is only getting older and without him who can Cam go to for big plays? we need to get a #1 WR now so when Smith retires we will already have a top WR to replace him. I do believe that Gettis is a good WR but I think Blackmon will be a top WR in the NFL.

We really need to fix our defense but I think experience will improve our defense, along with some vets and maybe a FA DT or LB our D will be good enough to not cost us games.

I think our main need is to fix our special teams.

Good post.

I'm not too worried about 2012 though, aside from the DWill & Davis contracts, we got some great players locked up long term. I mean really we were never a team(in our successful years) that relied on signing free agents. Plus Hurney, despite some of his failures, is still great working around the cap.

Past 2012 though, isn't the cap projected to skyrocket in 2013 due to the new TV deal?

I think they'll re-sign the players in bold and restructure/extend Gamble, Smith, Stewart and Davis.

This is what we need to draft

1. CB

2. MLB

3. WLB

4.OT

5.CB

6.DT

7.DE

In that order.

terrible list is terrible

there's not a single cb or dt that should be drafted high in the upcoming class...it's a weak defensive draft class.

as much sense as it won't make to a lot of people, carolina needs to draft offensive bpa with it's first pick.

This is crazy. Our offense is completely fine. With how awful our defense has been and our head coach being a defensive guy we are going defensive.

There are plenty of great defensive guys that can come in and make a significant impact from week one for us and be upgrades.

-Morris Claiborne

-Janoris Jenkins (off field issues, but probably the best cover, shut down corner in college football. He is also an explosive returner which we could use)

-Vontaze Burfict (we are more than likely switch to the 3-4 but even if we don't he would be a great fit. He can play middle or olb.)

-Luke Kuechly (same as burfict)

-Manti Te'o (same)

-Zack Brown even though I'm not sold on him

-Dre Kirkpatrick. I'm not sold on him either but he is a big physical corner

There are others as well. No way we go BPA on offense. That's retarded.
