Penn State...what did Paterno know?

Exactly.

McQueary was 28 years old when he witnessed this....he was not a child.

If I walked in on ANYONE molesting a child, I would put your ass through the wall....or die trying.

McQueary is a POS for turning and walking away. One call to the police would have ended the whole damn thing in 2002. Instead, he punted.

We are speculating on what Paterno was told. McQueary (by his own admission) witnessed it and practically did NOTHING to stop it.

He is MUCH, MUCH, MUCH worse in my eyes.

This is my issue as well. I'm 28 years old, average sized, and between giving the child a chance to escape to going well beyond excessive force, I am having a direct and immediate impact on the situation in progress.

I'm a far cry from being the bravest person out there (bees make me flee T.T) but I cannot even begin to fathom how much cowardice it would take to abandon the victim and leave the child in such a horrible and disgusting situation.

Basically everyone says they would step in.

I bet at least half of you would panic.

You are right. They had some Psychologist on NPR this morning talking about it, and they were of a consensus that no one truly knows how they would react until they actually are in the situation.

I like to think I would have stopped him and told him to get lost. But I don't know that for certain.

I do think that as I thought about it, I would eventually come to the conclusion of calling the police, and or finding the parents of the boy though.

Ritchie sums up my feelings perfectly:

"Now afterwards, afterwards, is where the problem lies. When you get away and you understand exactly what you saw and how terrible and how far reaching that could be that is when something should have been done by that entire staff, Mike McQueary included."

Reports now Paterno knew of this in 1998. Let's make sure everyone who thinks I'm a lying idiot go ahead and quote this post so I can come back later all super smug.

You will be super smug either way. It's a win-win for you.

On a serious note if Paterno knew in 1998 then there is going to be a meltdown.
