Dispelling the new myth about our offense and defense

Rankings efficient offenses take field position into account. Field position has to do with the offensive and defensive side of the ball. You cannot possibly only take into account what the offensive side does unless you exclude field position.

Finally you are saying something truthful there. They both do absolutely.

But primarily it's special teams and turnovers, both offense and defense, not defense, that has to do with field position. The only time a defense can improve an offense's field position is by getting a turnover or a 3 and out early. So while this certainly helps even during a 3 and out our offensive side of special teams, and the other team's kicker come into play before the offense ever gets the ball. So if the other team has a good punter, and our offense special teams punt return team sucks, hint hint, we're not going to get good field position. But once again....that's more on the OFFENSE. Although defense can impact the other team's kicker directly which will sometimes result in good field position. But the defense cannot impact field position directly with anything except a turnover. And the only type of turnover they can really do anything about is a forced fumble recovery, something our D is very good at. Interceptions and regular fumbles has more to do with the other team's offense, than with our defense.

And when you break those two down into offense or defense, which most advanced statistics website do, it is the offensive side of the special teams that is responsible to help the offense get good field position. Not defensive side.

But our offense on the other hand.....can impact itself as well as our defense directly with a turnover, not scoring, not getting a first down, penalties, sacks, etc. And this offense is great at beating themselves. One of the BEST in the league in this department.

If they had a ranking that ranked offenses by how good they are at beating themselves, we'd be #1.

yeah, a heck of a lot more, but at least not as many as those bums Brady, Brees, Rivers, Freeman... not to mention he's in the company of Matt Ryan and just barely above that stinker Big Ben!

You keep missing the point how Cam Newton can't compare to those quarterbacks statistically, especially in the 4th quarter.

Except for Freeman, Brady, Brees and Rivers can afford it. Cam can't. He's no 66+% passer and he's clearly no 4th quarter comeback winning master. Those guys are.

But I guess you are happy that he compares to them in categories you don't want to be first in, and he only compares to them in yards. Even though his yards per attempt isn't quite as good either and as we found out...the number 1 reason it's even decent is Mr. 20.0avg, Steve Smith.

Which is who everyone needs to be slobbering over this year. Not Cam Newton. Smith is a damn beast. It's ok though, I have a story I need to finish that I think a lot of TRUE Panther fans will love.

The rest... I don't care about.

PS: One question you all should be asking yourself though is why has Cam Newton been dropping in yards week after week while Steve Smith is rising? Who's making who look good? How can you guys say this about Smith man? Shame, shame shame. It's SMITH!!! First big guy that comes on our team, and everyone thinks the little dude is the one being helped. Please.

If Cam Newton was really helping Steve Smith, Steve would be on his way to a second Triple Crown this year, making him the only receiver in history to get it twice. There are only about 7 that have it in the first place in the HISTORY of the NFL. He was the first to get it since 1992.

If he was helping him he'd learn how to pass better touchowns in the red-zone, and make those long bombs right so Steve doesn't have to slow down and fall down at the 1 yard line. I'm PISSED with how those offense is running their red zone offense btw.

And that's a leader for you. He doesn't mind he has 918 yards and only 4TD's while Cam has 7 rushing TD's. And our running backs might as well be offensive linemen. You guys are fooling yourselves if you think receivers are going to want to come here and be part of that. I'm not sure even Stewart is going to want to stay in this style offense. One of these guys might as well go home.

If we were winning it would be one thing, but to lose and have everyone donate their yards, touchdowns and rushing TD's to the quarterback. Yeah...most NFL players are going to love that poo.

1) Smith's numbers have actually been dropping. In the first four weeks of the season he had over 500 yards, he's had under 400 in the last four.

2) Cam competes in number of touchdowns, as well. No, he's not *as good* as Brady or Brees, but 18 total touchdowns is only a couple short of 20 and 21... especially for a rookie.

3) Let's repeat again... Cam is a rookie. Ok?

4) Cam leads all the guys I listed in one interesting category: Number of touchdown drives greater than or equal to 80 yards.

lol @ you thinking Cam isn't a leader because "poor neglected" Steve Smith has only 900 yards and 4 TDs.

Falcons and Saints have 9 fumble recoveries, and the Buxs have 7. We have 6 recoveries. How does that make it "Something our D is very good at?"

If you are wrong about that, how much else should I believe from you? There is no possible way you can watch Panther football, and actually believe the Offense is our main problem.

Dude, do you actually believe the poo you put out there? Or do you just enjoy arguing for arguements sake?

My giddy SMH at you. And GOOOO CATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't remember, what were Steve's averages with Matt Moore at QB? Surely he was on pace for the triple crown, right?

Because I compare them with league average, not selective teams.

And you also need to divide that number by the number of games they play because we are in bye week time.

Smitty did pretty well with Moore. Hard to compare the yardage because the two systems were so radically different. It was really Clausen where his production was awful.

Obviously Smitty is producing more this year. I think Cam has a lot to do with that, but so does the offense we're running.

Wow what a lot of reading..................

Personally the only formula i care about is:

Panthers points at the end of game-opponents points at end of game

If its a positive number im happy!!!!!!!!

Me too! That's ypp baby! scoring efficiency. we're 21st.

But we have A LOT of yards. wooooooooooo....yeaaaaah....great. Who the fug cares? I want wins not yards.

Who would have thought that actually having a good quarterback would have made this board as unreadable as it is right now.

I think the board is pretty readable. I think you just keep going into the threads you know you're going to read what you don't want to hear and keep bitching about it.

Besides aren't you supposed to have me on ignore?

You could just stay out of this one since you know what you're going to read..

    • I hope Stewart isn't even on our list of potential 1st round picks and is really low on our list of 2nd and 3rd round picks. He just had a terrifying lack of production for a top 100 pick. He's the type of guy you take a late round flyer on to see if you can make a football player out of an athlete but a pretty good P5 college program failed to do it so your odds aren't great.
