Well aren't you lucky. Most of us fail interviews because we lack the experience the employer really wants (why you'd make me drive a 700 mile round trip to say you really liked me, but you went with a person that had more experience with the company is beyond me).

It's a pooty, pooty market. Sure there are a ton of idiots out there, but there's also a ton of kids like myself that simply can't catch a break. Nobody is willing to take the time to train somebody when there's always an experienced body to plug in thanks to the economy

Most places I know only want managers with experience.

Typically every other position they'll go with what is the cheaper option.

You can't train integrity, ethics and personality.

I will say the hardest thing to go from is an Asst. Manager, to Manager. No matter the industry. The higher ups want you to have experience, but won't give you a shot. That I agree with you on.

Maybe I could just hire you to be in charge of hiring... then we'd have an office full of hot womenz... and still not get any work done...

You wouldn't get any work done, and it wouldn't be because of the hotties.

It'd be from dealing with the drama that comes with an officeful of women.

I'm a trained/qualified journalist so I'm applying for things in the media/communications field mainly (although not exclusively - fug it man, I need any job at this point). Nobody is willing to take a chance on a youngster when there's always some experienced guy that's just been made redundant.

I've lost count of the number of interviews I've come 2nd or 3rd for thanks to some 30+ year old with 5+ years experience in the field applying.

Really?

That's honestly pretty rare. Younger people are cheaper.

Like my wife works in the internet security industry and makes less then $100k. Everyone else whose been there 10+ years, in their 40s, all make $120+.

I tell her it's job security, as the older/experienced/expensive workers are the first ones to go.

They have a set rate for what they're willing to pay people for these jobs (£21k being the max). If an experienced person applies for it they still get offered the same wage.

Like I said it's all about the economy being in the crapper. These guys would rather bank £21k in a job they're probably overqualified for than £0 sitting on unemployment. Just means people like me don't get a shot.

Btw I get a lot of "We really liked you and under any other circumstances we'd hire you, but we need someone that can start right away who doesn't need training (in the practices of their specific company e.g. the NHS way of communication etc)".
