And I kinda feel bad about it. Young guy, pretty enthusiastic, but not getting on the same page. Was willing to give him some more time, but he lies to me, so he had to go.

Hope he learns from this.....

I know it is a hard thing to do but he is responsible for his firing not you. (I am sure you know that..just want to reinforce) It is a shame when you see someone with potential that just fugs it up. Hope he does use that experience for the good. Up to him.

Oh I agree. I'm very jealous. The things that people are protected while doing in this state is borderline outrageous.

I'm a restaurateur in Cincinnati so I have been there, done that.

Just 3 weeks ago I caught a line-cook smoking pot behind the dumpster and fired him on the spot. Then one of my other workers(floater) walked out on me, because I fired his friend.

I had to work the line for a couple weeks until I had his replacement trained, no big deal though.

It really sucks because he was supposed to replace a guy that is leaving for the military......now our window for training got a lot smaller, and I hate when the big boss has to fill in....speed isnt an option with him.
