Yes, go to europe and see some of the world, you will not regret a second or penny of it. I used to live overseas and I miss it a lot......but I love being back in my home town to attend all the panther games I can afford :)

$800 for a round trip? Holy poo thats cheap... Try Ryans Air when you get to europe. Cheapest air fair in the world. You can fly from Germany to London and back for $30.

Cheapest you'll ever find tickets to Europe is about $600, and that's rare. 800-1000 is about average.

My wife and I are planning a trip to Europe, and 800 seems to be about average. I have found that orbitz is probably the best site for international flights. You can also try canoe.com, as they compare all the known sites.

Fwiw, you don't necessarily have to fly to Germany first. If you find a cheaper fare to Paris, you could do that, then easily take the train to Germany.

You need to get your passport quick. It takes a while to get one and there are a few steps to it. Check out the state department website.

Germany is a lot of fun. Beer halls are great, the beer is strong and you can even get a beer at the Mcdonalds (not that you would really want to go to mcdonalds :)). And if you are in Kiel, remember the words four floors of whores. :)

Btw, your passport is what you need. A visa is what they stamp in your passport when you enter and exit. At least thats the way it works for tourist.

England. I was in France for a day, but my host family was constantly saying how the French are some of the unfriendliest Europeans to foreigners and how their cities smell of urine.

Maybe that's just their opinion but still, I'm sure others had good experiences there.

England is more fun with better pubs and more historical stuff, but its easier and cheaper to travel to Germany from France.
