Alshon Jeffery to Panthers?

I never said anywhere that he wasn't good- nowhere. The fact that you're putting words in my mouth and getting so defensive tells me how much of a homer you are.

I just think he's a number one WR and that's what we need. I see that in Blackmon. I see the need for a speed guy on the outside because of the nature of our offense. Because I think he'll struggle getting seperation without speed at the NFL level.

Outside of the first paragraph, this is your first quality post in this thread with a legitimate argument. The point about you saying he isn't good is when you compared him to USCw Mike Williams. No, you didn't say he's not good. But you compared him to a terrible receiver. That is practically the same thing. And my getting defensive isn't just because of you. It's because of people all over this site saying that Alshon is going to be a bust simply because they dislike USC. But now that we have a bit of a discussion going, I will put this aside.

My argument to the separation issue is that Alshon uses his physicality to get separation rather than speed. Off the top of my head, there is a slant route in the Alabama highlights where Alshon was covered tight by Dre Kirkpatrick but uses his size advantage to push him aside and get some space. That is his game. He does this as good as anyone I have seen. The TD he caught also shows him using his physicality and then a short burst of speed to break away from the CB for an easy score. 1-on-1, there isn't one DB in the SEC that can completely shut Alshon down. Not to mention that he runs and adjusts to that back-shoulder fade with the best of them.

CB's are a lot more physical in the NFL, I don't think that'll get him as far in the NFL, much like Mike Williams. He was awesome in college, but his game just didn't translate to the NFL. I don't think Jeffrey will be that good of a pro receiver. I didn't make a Jarrett comparison, but I do think it's fitting.

They are more physical, yes, but it's not like Alshon struggles with the college DBs. Again, go back and look what he did to Kirkpatrick as an example, especially the catch at the 1:50 mark. Alshon showed that a CB draped over him doesn't even affect his ability to catch and run with the ball. And Kirkpatrick is widely known as the most physical CB in the NCAA. I think the best comparison I've seen so far is Brandon Marshall.

People here are bashing Jeffery for being a possession WR while pumping up Blackmon as the next Steve Smith when Blackmon himself is a possession WR. Blackmon doesn't have elite speed or size, on his best day he runs around a 4.45 40 and hes only 6'1. His strengths are route running, body positioning and being able to go get the ball when its in the air.

IMO Jeffreys ceiling is higher then Blackmons but Jeffrey also has more bust potential. If things work out for Blackmon hes a slightly bigger Reggie Wayne, if things don't hes Michael Crabtree. If things work out for Jeffery hes a slightly lesser Larry Fitz, if things don't hes Mike Williams or Dwayne Jarrett.

Blackmon's 40ty range is from 4.45 to 4.64, he usually runs a low 4.5

Jeffery's 40ty range is from 4.46 to 4.65, usually runs a 4.56-4.58

I don't think either one is an elite NFL wr. They can be, but Jeffery needs to work on his core and build his strength up. He went into college having never lifted weights and isn't very strong, in the NFL he will be jammed and hard.

Blackmon is more polished but lacks the ideal size for a guy with a 4.5 speed. Better route runner and has more hip fluidity. He would be an ideal WR in a WCO or in the slot in a more vertical passing offense.

Alshon is clearly far and away the best Receiving prospect in this class, but unfortunatley, Blackmon is better suited to this offense. The thing with Blackmon is that he is boom or bust. He may be good, or he may bust very, very bad. Floyd I would not touch with a ten foot pole. Beyond that, just a bunch of guys in this year's class that we should have no desire for.

LOL, since when? This really does sound like homer speak, especially since its such a point of contention here.

Apparently the word "homer" has a different meaning than it used to. If you have a different opinion than someone else then you are a "homer". Good to know.

Apparently you haven't see his other posts on this subject.

We don't need anymore receivers you dumb f**ktards

Probably not right this moment but a WR, AJ or Blackmon, could be the best available player when this team picks, and Gettis is coming off a major injury and might not be a number one regardless. As well as the fact that Smith, as good as he is playing, is still getting older and it seems that players in the NFL are good one year and seem to get old and inaffective overnight, so it couldn't hurt to cover our bases, but whatev, to each his own. Obviously defense is a need.

Right on the money. Just because my opinion differs from others here, people resort to petty insults like "homer" because they have no other mental justification that someone could possibly disagree with what they deemed to be fact.

There are many many many scouting websites that agree with me, and what some of the posters here going to have to accept is that not everyone sees it the way they do.

It has nothing to do with being from USC, I'm just not as in love with him as the Gamecock fans here.

I don't want Coples, didn't want Quinn or Loafholt when he came out. Thought AP was too risky given his injury history, etc.

Adrian's Injury History? He was injured two times in college. Everyone thinks he was injury prone in college, when that is simply not the case. If you are an OU fan like I am, you know these things.

He played every game his freshman year. No injuries.

He played every game his sophomore year (had an ankle sprain for 3 games, but still played).

His junior year, he had the freak injury after 6 games where he dived into the endzone and broke his collar bone.

We are talking about a running back.. his knee's, his ankles, his feet are all perfect. Why in the world would you not want us to draft Adrian, other than the fact that we already had DeAngelo? Adrian was the surest thing at RB since... hell, no RB looked as NFL ready as Adrian did coming out.

HoF'r Marcus Allen said that Adrian Peterson was the first RB he has ever seen that looked like he could have come out of high school into the NFL.. he was that gifted.
