Brandon LaFell vs. Legedu Naanee (ohhh look STATS! yay!)

A few weeks back. The Falcons game, I think. An announcer said that Cam had stated that Naanee was a player that was "about to break out." It seems like Rivera and Cam really believe in the guy. I gotta figure that he must be a nice guy and team player that lights it up in practice, but dayum, come game time it's like he's wearing boxing gloves. I wonder how many times Cam has been tempted to say, "Sorry Leggy, I didn't mean to hit you RIGHT IN THE HANDS!!!"

Two caveats about LaFell's numbers which have been very good. As the third receiver he is primarily being used as a third down guy which puts him in favorable matchups against linebackers and safeties in zone coverage. This may not translate if he is being covered by a corner in press coverage.

Given our passing game is pretty prolific, why change what is working. There must be a reason that they put Nannee in there. They see the same numbers we do and aren't going to be biased just because Nannee came from San Diego. Their analysis is surely more detailed than just looking at stats.

very good points.

it will probably get overlooked and poo poo'd and you'll be labeled a naanee nuthugger or something for just being reasonable and not jumping on the naanee hatemobile like most everyone else, but whatever.

lafell's production is largely based on the role he's asked to play and naanee is involved a lot more because of his knowledge of and experience in the system.

easier to just throw the "he sucks and everyone that doesn't think that is a nuthugger", even though they have never said that he's all that great.

I see your point and the passing game is working....but it could be better.

Legadu leads in the NFL in penalties from the WR spot. His target/catch rate is not good at all. So if LaFell can come in and block better, have slightly better target/catch ratio, and commit fewer penalties.....it could make something good....better.

I get the if it ain't broke don't fix it thought process.....but at the same time making something good noticeable better can't be ignored. IMO, the passing offense could be better (not that I am complaining about it).

i think it's more the play calling could be better in the 2nd half and when we have leads.

penalties are a killer as well, but not just for naanee. most of the team is screwing up in this regard. i do think that the refs are being a bit picky with some of this stuff and in the case this past week with naanee's phantom holding call and others, they are being downright ridiculous. imo, though, the biggest area for concern for this team may be getting the penalties down.

I actually think Chud's playcalling has improved. I think he has a much better feel than he did a few weeks ago.....

still sucks when the #2 WR is the first read on key plays though.....

i think it still needs to be more aggressive in the 2nd half and with leads.

agreed that it is getting better in other areas, though.

Naanee is a good blocker and has done some other things outside of catching the ball but I think he could be a bit tougher. Some of the passes I thought he could have caught if he fought a little to get it....

I actually think he is a poor blocker.

I found it funny on Sunday the announcer tried to give him props about him blocking and doing dirty work on a play.....they then replayed it and Legadu basically threw himself on the ground and didn't even hit the person he was trying to block.

If they were 100% certain Legadu would run the right routes...he would have been benched by now. Everything they have been doing thus far is to make life easy on Cam.
