A Mid-Season look back at Free Agency.

I will admit the Dwill contract was way too high but really so was Johnson's. Both have been doing well its just hard to except Williams contract because we are basically wasting away Mike Goodson. Still no one would be bitching if we had lost Stewart or Goodson for the season.

goodson has made himself irrelevant. dude hasn't shown he can hang on to the ball. he just can't be trusted. the risk it too great there. if either stewart or williams goes down, i think everyone is going to be pissed eventually.

Actually in the last two pre-season games he looked as if he had corrected the fmbling problem with a little corrective training from RR.

He hasnt really seen the field since. So your comments are a little off base on this subject.

DeAngelo Williams was a necessary signing although his price got pushed up by outside competition. It not only solidified our running game but showed Stewart what he can expect at contract time if he continues to work hard. As for taking that money and spending it elsewhere, that really is a nonsequitur. The assumption is that we were going to spend that money somewhere so if it didn't go to Williams it would go elsewhere. That is not the case at all. We spent it on Williams period. We were going to go into the season with Edwards and the two rookies period. When Edwards went down we started to look elsewhere but CoField for example was long gone. Richardson spent the money to sign the core group but we didn't go out and make a big splash in free agency just like the past few years. Nothing changed. Look at the secondary. Did we go out and pick a free agent?? Of course not.

As for the rest you could argue that with Beason having one more year on his old contract he was a much worse signing. We paid him big bucks when we could have likely gotten him cheaper given he is coming off major achilles surgery. I personally have no problem with the signing but wanted to point out that right now the Edwards signing and the Beason signing were much worse from a production point of view in 2011 than the Williams signing.

Signing Ron Edwards To Be Decided ? Figures a guy who has hardly missed a game goes on IR in our training camp.

My thoughts exactly... agree with teh Kurb on most of that...

I'm torn on DWill... the bad is that his production isn't what it was, but that could be a number of things. I argued all along that the signing was justified due as much, if not more, to the fact of what kind of man/influence DWill is. I really still stand by that... Cam needs as many positive, smiling, laughing, good guy figures around him as possible, so from that angle, I'm fine with it. At this particular point, JStew looks like the better back that DWill, but that could be any number of things that we just don't see... nagging small injury, play calling/design not benefiting DWill's style, etc. There's also the injury bug... so far it hasn't bitten us at RB, but if we had an injury there, we would still be OK with our stable of RBs. If we hadn't re-singed DWill, what would we have had? JStew and Goodson right? I like Goodson, but he has his issues too... so overall, I'm still OK with DWill's re-signing.

TBH this FA was flooded with teams wanting to spend money. Prices were high and I think we did a great job with pickups. Next year I expect some more pickups in the DT area and maybe the CB corps but the biggest problem is players not understanding the system. Look at how Applewhite came in and just started to make plays, no he is not a great player but he understands the system. Wait till everyone is like that then watch out.

Once everyone understand what they need to do and can do it we will improve greatly.

Of this I have no doubt.
