I need DVD player advice

I havent bought one in years- I have a1080 p widescreen tv- I dont need to have the latest and greatest - do I need a bluray player? What ever that is?

blu-ray are like high def DVDs. if you care about quality picture, it's better than DVD. i'd just get a PS3 honestly. great bang for your buck.

a playstation 3. it also has the capability to stream on-demand netflix, it's a top blu-ray player, and it's also a gaming system, if you're into that.

you need a blu-ray as much as you needed a widescreen 1080p tv.

it'll make a significant difference but it won't change your life.

A BluRay player (BDP) is about the only source that will give you 1080p, without scaling. Most BDPs will upscale a standard DVD so you wont have to replace your collection. A PS3 used to be the most inexpensive BDP, but that has changed now. hepcat is right though, no BDP will play games as well..Try a pawn shop to save you a few bucks....

Dont spend more than a few bucks on an HDMI, monoprice.com has them very reasonable. Most new BDPs will stream Neflix, Blockbuster, Pandora, etc already, just need a network connection in the back...

I like my LG BluRay with wireless so I can get Netflix, MLB TV, hooks up to my computer music, pics, and video..

Really the best thing about BluRay is the sound if you have HDMI into your reciever.

Get a Blu-Ray, and assuming you have digital cable, go get a free HDMI cable from your cable provider. I go to Time Warner for free ones anytime I need one.

If you spent the money on a 1080p TV you should go ahead and get something to take advantage of that. Blu-Ray is really the only thing that will allow you to utilize your TV.

I still think the PlayStation 3 is the best on the market and does a poo load more than any other player. Downloadable content, games, wireless or wired network connection, etc.

You can get a decent Blu-Ray player for about 1/3 of the cost of a PS3 though, last time I looked.
