Inside the Numbers: Cam Newton - Week 8 (Video)

We haven't ran a toss sweep to the right in forever. Also I think OT is a need, and if available I would take Matt Kalil with our #1 pick, if not I would go OLB. We got to protect our investment in Cam.

lol. People are so giddy about the prospect of having Ryan's brother that they don't care if we abandon other needs to do so.

Offensive Tackle isn't a need. Bell has made it that way with great play. We could have a boring, uninteresting, good football player playing RT for us for a long time, and it's something you are going to have to grasp. We aren't drafting Matt Kalil, and some of you are going to have to get past it. If his last name was Johnson there wouldn't be the slightest bit of interest in him.

If Kalil is there maybe we take him but we can't just ignore the improvements Bell is making in his game because of the value of Kalil.

Plus, there's a chance we won't even be picking where he is available given the way some of the other teams in the league are playing... 2 wins may even net us the 4th pick, and we're very likely to hit 3.

Bell has room to grow, but he's been very solid thus far and there's a reason he keeps getting the starts. He does need to work on the penalties, bit that'll come as he learns the nuances of the position that come with experience. Like Otah he's a better run blocker than pass protector, but he's played well. Once he learns better technique he won't be as suseptible to the outside speed rush.

What I like most about this is how it highlights how significant the two fumbles that led to 14 Vikings points and the holding penalty that eliminated a 1st & Goal with 42 seconds and two timeouts left (A GUARANTEED WIN IN REGULATION) were.

This game had no business about to go into overtime, much less being lost.
