i think from next year going forward it would be hard to not put him in the top 5. this year it's a push. once he gets a full offseason and he's had a years worth experience under his belt, the dude is going to be easily one of the top 5 and pushing top 3 QBs in the league.

Newton has played incredibly this year, but you can't put him up there at this point. He has to establish more than 8 good games before you can put him in the top 5. The beginning of his career has been brilliant up to this point though.

I never even heard of Blaine Gabbert before the ESPN started talking him up, I was never impressed.

A bit off-topic...

It continues to amaze me to think back to draft evaluation days, and specifically the expert's take on Blaine Gabbert. Not to pick on Blaine, because he is still young and can grow, but he is this year's example of just how iffy the whole draft rankings are.

I am no expert, just a regular fan that pays attention, but it was clear to me that Blaine had performed in a very underwhelming manner at Missouri. He did not throw well deep or with defenders in his face. It was obvious that he wasn't in the same league as Cam, and yet the majority of the "experts" said he was the number 1 QB prospect.

It makes it very difficult to take anything the experts say seriously.

Its amazing that Newton is having a rookie season NO ONE has ever come close to and he gets hammered for not making the hall of fame and having three super bowl rings.

Agree since the pre draft combines on Gabbert.

I mean Gabbert's sloppy footwork had Waaay more work than Newton..

Again not winning in the Big 12...not excelling in a qb friendly offense cannot equal success at the next level. You could see the sheer panic in his throws when blitzed in games or highlights.

He can throw it for a mile, run fast in a straight line although he never made plays with his feet(which are slow and plodding). How many pundits said Gabbert was the jewel of 2011's draft? A good amount....same guys who said Kolb is worth DRC and a first and second round pick. Philly just got a top 5 pick in the draft for KEVIN KOLB!!
