Head Coaches and Newton

When you have Cam Newton as your QB, all you need is an avg Defense, avg special teams, and you will win plenty of games. In other words, coaches should do their job and get the hell out of Cam's way... At this point I am not blaming coaches, but as time goes on it will quickly become obvious if we have the right people in charge. Much faster than it ever did with delhomme/moore/etc as QB.

defense kinda has the excuse that we have had injuries to like 5 different linebackers, all who have started or played in some major capacity, not to mention Ron Edwards' injury, the various injuries to our safeties that have cost them time, etc...

what a lot of people don't realize is that when you take your backups, and make them defensive starters, it makes it much harder to play them on special teams as much all the time. So injuries count doubly against you.

I know, unfortunately for us no othr teams have injuries this year and luckily we will not have any next year so its a valid excuse.

how many teams with first year coaches/coordinators have lost 3 starters to injuries this year, with 2 being at the same position and arguably the best players on the entire defense?

Afer 8 weeks, here is my prediction...This team will win when the rest of the team finds a way to win despite their injuries like the other 31 teams in the league...

What's that I hear, the cheers of a Rams defense that found a way to help it's struggling offense beat the Saints.. Wow, no excuses made. Oh yes, and the Giants defense that helped a struggling Eli hang in there and get a victory..See how that works.

As a spectator rooting for this team week in and out, it's really sad when my first thought is, how will this team find a way to lose and not so much will this team win...SMDH..it's sad but it's also reality.

It won't be long before JR calls Newton over to the house and asks who needs to be fired.

JR will keep Cam happy. That's the bottom line

 oh shaddup.

If Cam gives him any names, he's not the QB or teammate he's lead everyone to believe he is thus far. He wouldn't do that. And if our organization is worried about keeping only 1 player happy, we're in bigger trouble than we thought.

What scares me is the possibility that Newton develops into the kind of QB that can almost guarantee a team a winning record year in and year out, despite the coaching staff. And that Rivera turns out to be no better than, say, Norv Turner, but keeps his job for Newton's entire career because he keeps winning, even though he just can't win the big one.

to be honest I did not have high expectations going into the season. For all the mentioned "rookie" reasons.

However, since we've been so close in so many games - led several with under 5 to play - its hard not to be frustrated. I have to keep reminding myself to step back and be patient.

Its not going to happen this year! It would be nice to win, but its more important that this team learn to play together in the new scheme. More important for Cam to take ownership of his franchise. More important for our rookie coach to learn from his mistakes, identify problems and plan for improvements through FA or draft. More important for this team to form a new identity. It will happen

- but next year is a more realistic expectation.

Change takes time - this team has to re-learn how to win - its had the life sucked out of it for the past couple of years. Takes time to learn "how to win" on a consistent basis.

I'm seeing a change in the stadium atmosphere - its much better. I see the team handing balls to fans - they are trying to improve the atmosphere too. We've had more mention on sports shows this year than I can ever recall - so we're even chnging the way the media views us.

All things in good time - I believe!
