Just tell the truth about Jake...you don't love him

top dawg

One thing that I have noticed about this board: You have plenty of people pounding their chests about how they love Jake, and he's the best for our team, and gleefully proclaiming, "I told you he was our guy," and blah blah blah blah blah.

There have been no great surprises during this off season---not one. Hurney, Fox, Pep, Jake, Gross, etc. have pretty much played their parts to perfection. One of the easiest realizations to come to, was(is) that barring an act of God, Jake's going to be the starting QB for the Carolina Panthers this coming August.

Now, some of you just go on and on about how Jake is the best thing that ever put on a Panthers uniform. I realize that some of you might just really believe that. But, others are just joining the bandwagon because they want to appear as though they have some great insights, and/or are cheesing while sipping the Jake Koolaid and reprimanding others for being negative if they dare bring up a scenario that doesn't include Jake Delhomme under center at BOA in the summer.

Stop shoveling, and admit the fact that you don't love Jake, you only just accept the fact (which is arguably the more rational choice as opposed to "whining" about it) that Jake is our guy, simply because there are no apparent better options. You desire the next Peyton Manning like all of us. You only accept Jake because it's what you have to do. You only accept Jake because there aren't any other better options. Yeah, you might not think that he sucks, but you aren't in love with him either.

Stop pretending.

Jake is great because of what he brings to the team. He's a true gunslinger and sometimes that will get him into trouble, but more times then not he's been there for this team and won his fair share of games. He's unquestionably the leader of the team. Really what more do you want your starting QB to do then win games, which he does more often then not with his late game heroics.

I want my starting QB to get a ring for J-Rich while he can still enjoy it. I want my starting QB to bring a championship to the Carolinas. I want my starting QB to maximize the talent that he has around him, particularly when that talent is Super Bowl Talent.

I have been a Jake hater, a Jake "appreciator," a Jake lover, and varying people in between. Believe it or not, I wrote a whole thread about how I had grown to love the man (which probably disappeared when the site got hacked).

The emotional roller coaster ride sucks, quite honestly.

I respect Jake, and his appreciation for where he is. He really does love the game.

I do not like the fact that we have not had any QB's that we have drafted stick with the team, or gotten better and challenged Jake for the starting position.

We don't have to have a top 5 QB to be successful, but it sure would help sometimes.

This pretty much sums it up for me. While I would love the organization to at least "appear" more proactive in finding Jake's heir apparent (and who knows, he may be on the roster), I do realize that he is the best option for the team right now.

As people have already mentioned, I love the guy's intangibles. But intangibles don't always cut it.

That didn't come out right. Perhaps it's a technical Freudian slip. Your feelings are confused. You have mixed emotions.

    • Here comes Frankw and his pathetic little persecution complex to claim I have a personal vendetta against one of the worst performing coaches in the league if anything I should love Canales because he’s walking proof that through the lord all things AREN'T possible.  This kind of performance is exactly what you’d expect from someone who filled the building with misunderstood Bible quotes about iron forging iron and inspired speeches about how he apologized for his infidelity by buying his wife a book deal.  once more into the breech dear friends, just like when I paid a stripper for an above the pants hand job in Orlando.
    • As dumb as it probably sounds, we should have won that game.  Defense was bad but Bryce should have been better.  Pass rush isn't a good enough excuse.
    • You and I both know there isn't a coach we could or can still hire that can "fix" Bryce Young. Even at mighty Alabama with one of the best modern coaches in college football history Mac Jones was still a better QB than Bryce Young. Mac Jones.... We already know how you feel about Canales on a personal level so in that regard you wanting him fired is not news. You don't have to disguise it behind this shroud of rabble about not fixing Bryce Young. To his credit he somehow had us competive against the Chiefs and the Eagles on the road with #9. But no coaching staff can overcome their starting QB turning the ball over 4 times. We definitely have developed some of our younger offensive pieces. And as far as Evero goes he has earned criticism and if he's fired so be it but in his defense many of us said in the offseason this defensive roster was a disaster waiting to happen given the resources we spent on the offense while neglecting the defense. That was Dan Morgan's plan. He swung too hard toward offense to salvage the Bryce Young trade. That's on him. We can scream about XL all we want but at least he's actually been on the field for the most part. The Brooks pick was a luxury pick at the time and now it is a Hurney level blunder. Dan Morgan has gotten a lot of early praise here when in reality he's unequivocally deserving of significant criticism. But if you say that some people get up in arms because he's a former Panther. Big whoop. He has just as much to prove this upcoming season as Canales. That's why to me in my own personal opinion I say one more season and then if it's more of the same say goodbye to both.
