Mare Bitching Thread

Cam Newton, speaks the truth, and not ONLY because it's the political answer:

Cam, I couldn't agree more.

It is only the PC answer. Mare had an opportunity to send it to OT and he did not. He was set up in position to score at the end of the game and failed to deliver.

Sure we could've scored 9000 points and beat the Vikigns 9000 - 24 and not had it come down to a FG but that's just bullshit to defend a teammate. When you have opportunities you have to cash-in and depending on the point in the game, they are all the more important and significant. You can make up for a poor 3rd quarter drive. You can't make up for a missed short FG when there isn't enough time to get the ball back.

How many missed oportunities did Cam blow today. He touched the ball way more than anyone else. Cept maybe the vikes.

I can't understand what you're trying to tell us over 6 morale victories.

I've never bought into the "moral victories" mindset.

The only other time this season that I've been as angry as I was today, was after the Arizona loss.

This team has given away 6 games. Why should I be happy about "rebuilding", when you're giving away games, instead of just being beaten.

They left 14 first quarter points on the field against the Packers inside the 20. Got the ball back a couple of times against Arizona and went 3 and out while they had the lead. Of course they were robbed by the officials in Chicago, but only coming away with 3 on the first drive that game hurt in the end. They killed themselves at the end of the 1st half against Atlanta, when they should've been running the ball instead of throwing to the endzone anyway, which eliminated an opportunity to try to get some separation beginning of the 2nd half. Don't even get me started on 3 & 2 against the Saints, and then today's lackluster offensive performance after the first possession in the 2nd half, where the Panthers' offense played dead until the last drive of the game.

"Moral victories" my behind. They've beaten themselves over and over again. Minnesota's defense made ZERO big plays in the 2nd Half, nothing memorable, yet the Panthers went 3 and out and got nothing going, just because of going through the motions?

They deserved to lose. I know that. Cam knows it. And anyone who looks at the "whole" game instead of just one player or play knows it to. They had opportunities to put Minnesota away and didn't SEIZE THEM.

The Panthers do not have any difference makers on special teams and certainly not defense. Zero. Zip. Nada.

Not one player on defense or special teams that makes a difference in a game through the past 8 games.

Not one forced fumble. Not one stopped drive. Not one game winning return of a punt or kickoff or blocked kick. Nothing.

It is an awful lot to ask a seasoned QB must less a rookie QB to always be the one to make plays.

I don't blame Mare for losing the game. I blame Mare for failing to do the one thing he is paid to do. Kick field goals.

I disagree, OP. Ask Mare and I bet he'll say the missed FG is on him and that he could've made it.

He's already said that.

It still wasn't a fluid possession. Doesn't matter. Mare prevented them from going into overtime. The holding penalty prevented them from winning the game with a Touchdown.

The loss was a team effort. There's no guarantee they'd have won in overtime, and they had more than enough opportunities to put it away in regulation.

    • Too late to edit above but the quote is from this Diane Russini article in the Athletic: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5941684/2024/11/23/russinis-what-im-hearing-the-day-the-jets-fell-apart-and-the-broncos-rallied-belichick-best-fits/ Okay.. there you have sorry I left that out the first post.  Also waivers keep the contract intact. That is the major difference in released and waived. It's all in that link from the other post.
    • Okay so I am reading something in The Athletic and it says that Jones had to pass through waivers. So I don't know. I looked this stuff up when we were number one there all offseason and I thought it said 4 years in the league got you vested, as they call it.  Vested gets you out of waivers as I understood it. I probably got something wrong, but when I think about the slack quality of journalism these days I wonder about that. So I went and looked, again. Well, well.  For everyone: "When a player has accrued at least four seasons in the NFL, they are considered a vested veteran. When these vested veterans get cut, they are released and their contract is terminated. When a vested veteran is released, they are an unrestricted free agent that can sign with any NFL team, and the team that released them doesn’t need to provide any additional compensation." It runs it all down here, where the quotes came from: https://www.profootballnetwork.com/waived-vs-released-nfl/ As far as Jones, the team turned down his 5th year option so I knew that meant he had 4 years in, because they re-signed him anyway, after turning down the much cheaper extra year.  The Athletic is owned by the New York Times so I shouldn't be surprised. That paper was an institution once upon a time but they let their standards go.
