Panther Beat Writers

But I don't drink

You'll have to enlighten me about Newton. Which paper was he with?

And come on, didn't you hear that Darin Gantt was a colossal Panthers homer who does nothing but say whatever the team tells him to? Not a fan...HA!

And you're right. I don't want beat writers to be fans. I also don't want them to be haters, but that's apparently what some here would prefer.

I am amazed at how personally some folks seem to take this stuff. Heck, I can recall one fan who never got over being on the wrong side of the Weinke-Delhomme debate and wound up changing teams over it. Sheesh :nonod:

You know what's scary? The Panthers are still a young franchise. The fans here who take things too seriously? They're like Cowboys fans with training wheels. You should see what it's like on the Kentucky basketball forum. Every reporter has it in for the Wildcats. Every time someone says something good about the Cats in print, that is a "great piece" and everyone says what a good level headed writer the guy who wrote it is. I'm sure it's the same way on Cowboys forums, Bears forums, Packers forums, etc.

If he could use them correctly it would help everyone improve. Larger vocabulary doesn't help when you don't use it correctly. Using them just because they are there and you want to say something different makes you sound like you are trying to impress. Using them incorrectly makes you sound like you are trying too hard.

He's new, I assume. He'll get better.

No, he came from the Broncos. The one thing about him is he is REALLY determined to provide as much inside news as possible. I was tied up in a political tug of war and simply decided to go the entertainment route (Hot Potato) over news. You have to understand that the Panthers as an organization don't just play their cards close to the chest...they wear a heavy coat over their hand. It frustrated the hell out of me and quite honestly I gave up trying to fight it.

Example...when we played the Giants in the playoffs in 05, I wrote that the run defense would determine the outcome. I asked which run defense would show up, the one that allowed Dallas and someone else to run over us late in the year, or the one that shut down Atlanta and someone else to get us into the playoffs. After we shut down Tiki Barber and the Giants, Trgovac sought out my coworker and said "I guess we found out which fuging defense showed up, huh?"

Andrew is a very valuable asset to Panthers fans and I hope the organization doesn't clamp down on him. I remember when we lost at Atlanta last year the headline he put up was "I-85 Crash." The next morning it said "I-85 Pileup". That was the first thing I saw that made me think "uh oh". Last year he was allowed to speak his mind. The test will come when the team goes 5-11.

I wonder what he thinks of Cutler?? :D

I don't mind Trgo being a little salty about that IF IF IF he was willing to swallow some humble pie about how badly his defense failed down the stretch this past year (or ever). Wonder if he was?

When have I been too shy? :D

I'm just messin'...I know you were working most of the times I saw you and couldn't chat.

As for the other meaning of that..Yeah I gotcha....not shy:p

Sorry, but using the rule applied in other threads of late, I'm going to have to discard your comments in this area.

Anyone who actually knows or has talked to the people involved in this debate is automatically disqualified from having an authoritative opinion. That little "Cowboy fans on training wheels" comment tells me all I need to know about you. I'm afraid I must put you in the category of apologist, homer and lousy journalist and give no credence whatsoever to your take on things.

Carry on :sosp:
