Who are the keepers on defense?

the defense is gonna need time to gel together. Fua and McClain need seasoning. Rookie dlineman rarely just come into the league and blow it up. For every Suh and Dareus there are a dozen that take a few years to develop or never do. I like our young secondary actually. Hogan and Butler have potential. Capt is a gamer. Martin and Godfrey are a really good Safety combo.

Honestly i say our squad is full of keepers. Omar Gaither has played decent. Applewhite was a find. I know some folks are wanting a Linebacker with our first pick but i have to respectfully disagree. I honestly think we should trade up and try and get our LT of the future. Kalil is that guy.

Heading into neext season the keepers on defense are:

Charles Johnson, Greg Hardy, Sione Fua, Terrell McClain, Antwan Applewhite, Ron Fields, Ron Edwards, Jon Beason, James Anderson, Omar Gaither, Dan Connor, Thomas williams, Brandon Hogan, Chris Gamble, Captain Munnerlyn, Darius Butler, Sherrod Martin, Charles Godfrey, Jordan Pugh

Those are the only keepers I can think of. Most of them are very solid back ups/special teamers which is very important. But need to solidify a lot of the starting positions on D.

Also defensive players I'd look to draft with our pick in the first round are Janoris Jenkins(best shut down corner in college football plus a dynamic returner), Morris Claiborne, Zack Brown or Vontaze Burfict. Not really any great D linemen as of right now worthy of a first round pick. Definately some decent ones in the 2nd though.

He's the guy I want, his value could rise before the draft depending on so many variables and I don't really buy into "reaching" thing.

I don't mind 'reaching' either as long as the player is good. A lot of people felt like Beason was a reach when we took him. Having said that, I don't think we can overlook a better player (say a WR or OT) if one is available just because we need an OLB so badly.

i think we should start looking at cb gamble is not getting any younger. But he is playing great right now

I'm with this guy. I think we'll end up getting a young corner in the 1st or 2nd round that can start next to Hogan when gamble gets too old (which might not be too far away, if a corner gets too slow he's pretty useless).

I think my ideal first pick of the draft would have us picking in this order: 1. Matt Kalil (very improbable, too many teams ahead of us need him) 2. Jeffery, Blackmon, or Floyd (don't think we can pass on a dominate receiver if we somehow are in position to get one, Steve smith getting old, we have no true #1 besides him) 3. Dre Kirkpatrick, Janoris Jenkins, Morris Clayborne 4. Vozante Burfict or Zach Brown

I just don't see the team going WR in the first round, when they have Naane, Gettis, Lafell and tutu that are all young and the team really likes them. I also don't see them going corner in the first when they are so high on Butler and Hogan. I'm thinking DT is out of the question since they spent the two picks on the spot last draft ( takes a while to get a player up to speed at DT spot in the NFL) Pretty much leaves, OLB, OL or DE. Yes, I think DE is a need. Hardy is one of the worst run defending DE"s in the league. I don't know if he even understands the concept of gap responsibility and holding the edge.

Jags DL coach Jay Cullen" you go get your guy" but with that being said i would rather go after Courtney Upshaw because of his scheme versitilty- sp.
