Darin Gantt is a joke journalist, a Panther organization apologist, and a sad suckup

So you didn't read the Herald back then, and you don't have any firsthand knowlegde of any of the people involved.

We have opinions from people who did read the Herald back then, and from someone who does know the people involved personally. Both points of view are in stark contradiction to yours.

Can you give a good reason why I should take seriously your purely speculative viewpoints over those of people who have actual knowledge?

Listen you Gantt groupie, what part of my post didn't make sense? Seifert is around and Gantt trashes him. Seifert leaves and Fox becomes HC and Gantt and he become chummy and it's nothing about how the Panther FO shits gold ever since then.

The only thing worse than a reporter worshiping a coach is a random guy worshiping a reporter.

Truth makes people mad. :(

Can someone show me where he is a Panthers Apologist ?

Check out his blog. When he editorializes something, it's ALWAYS about how he has to "put things slowly" for us his mentally challenged readers. He feels free to call us a bunch of morons, yet wouldn't DARE editorialize about Fox and friends.

hmmmm.....are you one of his mentally challenged readers?

if he didn't point you out personally, then let it go.

if he wasn't talking about you then why are you upset?

if he was talking about you personally, then you've got a problem.

he said he was talking about the emails he was getting. if you didn't send him one then you don't have anything to worry about.

And again, other than your spin on things, what actual evidence do you have to back this theory up?

I can quote you someone who actually knows Gantt and others like him, has seen them on a story from the inside, and would tell you that they're not even Panther fans.

Can you offer anything of actual substance in return?

Gantt has contradicted theories and ideas of mine more than once. Rather than whine about it or get all "drama queen" I choose to just recognize that he has inside access and I don't. Same with Chandler, Reed or any other beat writer. I still have my theories, but they're just that. And if they're right or they're wrong, who cares? Not like it's my job

A bit of journalism 101. Media outlets don't hire or assign guys based on their homerism, but based on their journalism. Their job is to report the details, regardless of whether it's good or bad. Any sports department that did otherwise wouldn't last long.

Frankly, Gantt's been pretty good at that, including in the John Fox era. His "This team needs a psychiatrist" article a while back (2007, I think) for example, pretty much ripped the team and staff a new one.

I'd add one thing that any of the guys who actually have covered the team would tell you. If you are a fan and want to remain a fan, you probably shouldn't become a reporter.

Having inside access actually makes it tougher to cheer for a team because you're forced to see the downside (nice guys getting cut, jerks getting glory and money, questionable moves and deals, people at their worst after losses, etc). It's much easier to be a fan when you don't have to see the stuff that goes on backstage. They'd also tell you that an organization that keeps things as tightly clamped as the Panthers can be a pain to cover.

Us fans however, we see only the public stuff. Based on that, we can choose to be homers or haters, optimists or pessimists, idealists or pragmatists, believers or skeptics, or - like a lot of us - somewhere in between.

And the good news: None of us risks getting fired if we lean too far one way or the other :sosp:

People seem to get upset when others don't act Exactly the way they think they should. They don't realize that there are individuals out there who may not think the same way and that there are also others out there looking at them thinking they're nuts. What goes around comes around...
