Worrying about Cam leaving in 4 years

Happy Panther

Recommended Posts

Why worry about something like this now? Not to mention, this team is in prime position to be Cam's team. The franchise will be built around him. He will get beneficial treatment. He will get his way more often than not. He will be the main attraction and ticket pusher.

He has everything lined up to fuse the Panthers franchise with Cam Newton for like 15 years if he can stay healthy. Even if it means he won't be the highest paid QB in the league, he probably will be the highest paid QB in franchise history, and he will be paid accordingly, and everything else above is not going to make him want to go anywhere else.

If I read Cam's personality correctly there's one thing that's more important to him than anything else: love of his teammates and coaching staff, and sometimes it will have to be biased in his favor, and ego stroking from the fans. As long as he has that....he's not going anywhere. Those two things will be the key to his success as well as the keys to remaining in Carolina for life. The money will have to please Cecil, not Cam. Cecil's the one making sure his son gets his.

 Why do you say one thing is most important then list two things?

I think the better question is not how many elite QBs have left for a better team in their prime, but how many elite QBs were on average teams? Until the team is winning and making the Playoffs, he won't be seen as elite. One comes with the other, and hopefully vice versa. If we're still an average team when that far, far away date comes, I can see him jumping. But if they give him the best pieces possible, the team as a whole will win and he will stay. It's not all about money to Cam, it's about being a constant winner.

Anyone remember when I got flamed for telling you that you would be regretful that he was under a shorter contract with the new CBA in place and you all told me to get fuged?

I remember it.

lol, remember when you posted this 2 months ago?

Honestly we'll luck into 2 wins again but we are the worst team in the NFL and cam is on his way to busting out of the league in 2 years. Just what I see.

San Diego basically let him walk.

This is and isn't true.

They offered him a pathetic base salary (like 2 million), but backloaded it with incentive pay for results on the field. He rejected that offer, so his agent shopped him and he (unfortunately) wound up in New Orleans.

From Wiki:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drew_Brees

After the season, the Chargers offered Brees a 5-year, $50 million contract that paid $2 million in base salary the first year and the rest heavily based on performance incentives. Brees evaluated the incentive-based offer as a sign of no confidence by the Chargers and promptly demanded the salary a top 5 "franchise" quarterback would receive.

New Orleans SaintsAfter the Chargers refused to increase their offer, Brees met with other teams. The New Orleans Saints and the Miami Dolphins were interested. New Orleans made an offer that included $10 million in guaranteed money the first year and a $12 million option the second year.

So they DID try, a little, to keep him. They didn't just cut him loose and part ways. It could be argued that they wanted to go with Rivers anyhow... but if Brees had stayed in San Diego, it would have been one hell of a QB controversy. I honestly think Brees would have kept the starting role.

What's interesting about this scenario, is that up until this year, Phillip Rivers has actually statistically matched Brees as a QB. But Rivers is having a bad year this year compared to his past years performance, so now, San Diego's Front office and coaching is looking dumber and dumber. (In fact, he has fewer TDs than Cam does, lol).

What scares the hell out of me, is that Chico keeps referring to the Chargers as a role-model for our team. I do not want the Panthers to be the Chargers 2.0.

Why would they change coaches when Matt Moore and Sporano have them in the Luck sweepstakes

I'm not saying they would. It's a completely unsubstantiated rumor, so take it for that. (Some Fins fans I know have been saying this is the talk in the fanbase).

Late edit:

Turns out, its not completely unsubstantiated.

Dolphins reaching out to Cower? Spagano selling his home in Miami? Hmm.

Sorry but Cam is far from being elite. Two wins dude! Nope he's a step above JP Losman.
