Got my NC Dept of Revenue bill for that Weed.

I own a website design and network security company. I probably know more about the internet than 99% of people on this board. I don't have a problem with my identity being associated with this on here. It was already printed in the paper. If someone wants to go through the process of figuring out who I am by contacting a friend inside the NC Department of revenue, I went ahead and saved them the time. Honestly though, why would someone bother? Seriously, answer this question for me.

Because they wanted to steal my identity? Doubtful, if they had the ability to steal someone's identity by just calling up a friend who would divulge personal information, why wait for this opportunity? Why not just steal peoples identities on a whim all the time? There is literally NOTHING that anyone could do that's harmful to me with the information provided on that piece of paper.

I know when I dabble in identity theft I usually hunt down people convicted of multiple felonies, they are usually the people from whom you can leach the most money off of.

PS my company finances are separate from my own, hence it being an LLC. My personal information is, in no way, associated with my company bank accounts.

Well, I guess I can waste a few minutes to try and explain...

I have worked with people who prosecute and investigate personal identity intrusion, theft, and attack. Some of the most elaborate schemes have involved the internet. Sometimes all they need is a last name. Having the last four of a social and a name is like candy to them.

This message board has moderate traffic, and is occasionally targeted by botters and spammers. These people often run in the same circles as thieves and hackers. The chances of someone who is of criminal intent to use your personal information in a malignant way is fairly good.

You act like you are somehow immune to the predations of other people, but the truth is, you're taking a chance, no matter how small you think it is, or how small it really is, by exposing yourself like this. And for no reason other than "discussion", which will neither gain you anything or help your position.

If you can't see the foolishness of that, and reject some advice in not doing this, well... good luck bro. It's your bag to carry.

I'll help you out here, or them, whatever. There is absolutely nothing in my name that exists. I have no personal bank accounts, my cell phone isn't in my name, neither is my mortgage, I have no credit cards and by virtue of no personal bank accounts no debit cards. Good fuging luck getting blood from a turnip. I also have failsafes regarding my credit score and business finances in place. I'm more protected than most people and I'm not really concerned. Thanks for your friendly advice though.

No input on the identity ordeal but back to the takes part, it's kind of like moonshine. It's illegal to make and sell it because you don't pay taxes on it yet it's illegal to pay taxes on it. Just doesn't make sense...

yea but poorly distilled moonshine can kill you.

This isn't about what YOU have in your name.

It's more about what THEY COULD create in your name.

Assuming your credit score is good, having part of your social gives them a key to get the rest of it. Once they have the full social, it's party time.

You're crying about a few thousand owed to the state... try having a few ten thousand being spent using your creditials, and having then to prove it wasn't you.

This happens every day

Its only a matter of time before Skynet becomes "aware"

I would know within minutes if anything is ever spent in my name, like I said, I have security systems in place. But it's not really important for me to explain. Just take my word for it, that I could care less about this information being out there.
