Is this the year Smitty gets his 2000 yards???

If Smitty gets 2000 yards but doesn't break the record (i.e. Wes Welker does) what does that mean for his HoF chances?

Steve wont make the HoF, they have a hard enough time voting in receivers to start with. The lull in his production the last few years certainly won't help.

Its gonna be tough enough to beat Rice's record for the season, I don't see 2000 yards but its definitely not out of reach.

Smith would need to get well within the top 10 all time receivers as a bare minimum for the HoF. Maybe top 5.

Andre Reed is #11 all time, went to the superbowl 4 times, and holds several records and can't seem to get voted in.

A single season record along with a Superbowl victory might be what it takes in addition to 4+ more years of very good production.

Smitty would need to average 114 yards a game to tie RICE's record

He would need to average 131 yards a game to get to 2000.

I think he has a great shot to beat Rice's record. Even averaging 131 a game is not far out of reach.

Yeah the issue is that Welker only needs 106 per game to break the record.

Considering that in 2008 Smith averaged over 100 yards per game in a system that ran the ball far more than it passed and had Jake Delhomme as the QB, I think he can definitely average 130+ per game.

As great as the numbers are, don't stop here. There is still a lot of room for improvement. A lot of inefficiency on offense that can get even better in the second half of the season.

This team's ceiling is still higher than what we're seeing. 432....that's still not this team's offensive ceiling in passing yards. Cam can cross 500 and we have an O very much capable of 650 total yards in at least one game. It may come against the Colts, but I truly believe it can reach that number. Heck it may even break the 735 yard record set by the Los Angeles Rams....which also did it against the New York Yanks(currently the Colts). Mark that Colts game on our calendar.

So I don't know if Smith can top Welker but he has a realistic chance at Rice.

As crazy as it sounds, he could do it. Do I think he will? No. But I could see him going off with a 200 yard game at some point and give himself some wiggle room. We know Cam is going to target him, it's just a matter of YAC and keeping the offense balanced so defenses can't double Smitty all day.

One thing they talked about last game was the adjustments made by the coaching staff at halftime. Which appeared to me to start going down-field to Smitty.

This is a weapon that many teams will simply not be able to stop. It's the go to option and the bailout option.

I agree there will be a 200+ yarder in there somewhere.

He could possibly be at 1000 after the Vikings game. Will take a huge game but he can do it against that secondary. Still don't know if he can get there.
