Come to a realization: this franchise is just too young

This team has always reflected the approach of its coaches, as all teams do. Now, some teams may often pick the same kind of coach (offensive minded, defensive, etc.) but that usually has to do with the ownership of that team as well. It's no accident that the Steelers have had only 3 coaches since 1969, and I believe that they were all defensive coaches (Noll, Cowher, and Tomlin).

The Panthers immediately had established a reputation as a hard hitting, aggressive defensive team under Dom Capers. That lasted while Capers was around. I can't remember anything of note with Seifert, because, well, Seifert stunk as a head coach here in my humble opinion (I think I might have been able to coach that 49ers team he inherited to some degree of success!). We are looked at as a conservative team both offensively and defensivley under Fox, and who can argue with that? That perfectly sums up Fox's approach. It would be nice if we can patch together a decent defense to go with the decent offense we seem to have achieved last season. We'll see, I reckon...

Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if they draft a guy high NEXT draft...and feel that one of the other 2 QBs or Jake would be a 1-2 year bridge. I think others have mentioned that before on here and I can see it happening. I also don't think it's a bad idea, because I would MUCH MUCH prefer to let a rookie QB sit TWO YEARS before he starts (maybe one if he had plenty of college experience and was in a pro style offense), but at least one no matter what...even if he goes to a good team. Besides the obvious plus of letting the kid develop and learn under little to no pressure to perform, you as a coaching staff also get to watch the kid's work habits, study habits, film habits, and interactions with teammates to see if he's a good fit on your team. If a guy doesn't have the "WANT TO" before he gets the job, he likely won't have it when he gets the job either.

Whoa.

Al Davis is in a league all his own. No one comes close. He's hired/fired like 5 or 6 head coaches in the last 7 years.

Jones is not nearly as bad as Davis.

Just remember how awful Dallas was between 1997-2002 before Parcells...and look at how they've slowly started to regress since he's left. They have been able to coast with a lot of the talent he stockpiled, but I think this year is when you start to see the true demise of the Cowboys. And if the salary cap stays in place, they're going to be in even bigger trouble with Demarcus Ware's impending free agency (could be the next 100 million guy), Jay Ratliff who signed a deal that he's outperformed and likely will want to have redone, plus the giant deals they gave Romo, Flozell Adams, Leonard Davis, Marion Barber, and Roy Williams the receiver. Jones is not there yet, but he's getting there in his old age.

    • Taking a look at the Panthers official visit/meeting tracker - players who the team met with that fall under the 4th/5th round: - CB Quincy Riley Louisville - NT Deone Walker Kentucky  - DT Cam'Ron Jackson Florida  - C Drew Kendall Bostol College  - RB Jarquez Hunter Auburn  - RB Ollie Gordon Oklahoma State
    • Freddie is the Road Warrior. It's not his fault that we can't score.  We are known for taking more shots. We tried less. That and bad luck killed us.THROW THE PUCK AT THE NET.
    • The problem is that if you don't have a fully settled QB of the future, you can't take him because it's just going to create a distraction that your young QB doesn't need while you're seeing if they can be your guy.  Then you also can't take him if you have just a full on legit starting QB because Shedeur likely isn't going to sit well with knowing he has no path to playing either. Realistically at this point, only the Rams, Steelers, or maybe the Raiders make sense to take him, anyone else and it just seems like trouble waiting to happen. With the Rams and Steelers, assuming Rodgers ends up there, it would be where he knows he's going to sit for 1 year and then get the chance to take over while learning from a HOFer.  That's a situation I don't think the Sanders family would have an issue with, especially at this point.   The Raiders would be a little similar, but he could get stuck behind Geno for more than just one year.  And think about it, do you really want a frustrated Shedeur living in Las Vegas?   Beyond those 3 teams, I really can't see a situation that is going to not have all sorts of crazy media around it.... so the Cowboys will probably take him, because of course that will happen. In a way, it's Kaepernick all over again.  The media distraction that is going to come with him, especially at this point, isn't worth dealing with for a backup QB. Once the Giants and Saints went with different QB's, it really set this up to happen.
