Panther fans being called out again

SCP

Things are changing at BofA however.

As we were going down the ramps after the very disappointing loss to the Saints with 50 seconds left, the Saints fans started that very ignorant 'Who Dat' chant'.

In years past they would have been ignored. Not this time. The Panther faithful began out chanting them for the Panthers and better yet, the Saints instigators of the 'Who Dat' chant got called down by one of the Security people and I heard him say to them 'This crowd is angry. Keep on chanting that and you are going to guarantee yourselves a not good result'.

i have never seen our crowd angry and defiant even in a loss...maybe it's the Cam effect and I have never seen security going down those ramps tell opposing obnoxious fans to shut up or odds were, they were going to get their asses beat.

I doubt it also, but you know how people can play opprotunists. At the very least it made me very happy to see Penguins and Flyers fans crowing about how unfair our owner was to them.

That's awesome. The owner doesn't owe those douchebags a single thing. Revenue or not, I'm sure JR hates to look out from his suite and see the other team's colors everywhere.

We've all seen it: a typical piece of poo walks in to BofA for a Panthers - Buccaneers game sporting a Romo jersey, and looks to talk poo to the first Panther fan who makes eye contact with him. Those punks need to be beaten to within inches of their existence.

I went to that game (First NFL game ever), and i'd say the ratio was about 70-30 in favor of panther fans. But I can completely understand Jordan Gross's comment. It just seemed that their were too many Opposing fans for my comfort. None the less, the experience was great!! Hope I'll be able to go to another Panther game again one day.

Winning solves pretty much everything.

True.

I also have to add (Yes I'm sure everyone knows this, & yes this has been pointed out a lot, but...) we are a young team.

Think about it this way...

The people who have grown up rooting for the Panthers are barely out of college if not still in highschool.

Last year I took my wife to a Packers game & the people I brought the tickets from talked about their great grandfathers buying tickets to watch them play in Bellevue Park.

The cheapest way to get tickets is to just buy them. If people want to go then they can just go. I'm not sure how adjusting PSL prices are going to fill the stands with people who aren't going the cheaper route that's available.

Dead on. At any game, you can scalp tickets at a discount to face. PSLs are not stopping anyone from going to the games. Go to just about any tickets site and you'll get tickets cheap. Where there's a will, there's a way.

As I said, the response from the fan base has been nothing but positive. People recognized that the owner did something to protect them, and they've turned out in response to that. Granted the team's been amazing the past few seasons, but the Caps didn't have this kind of support the year they made the Stanley Cup Finals. In fact, that year they played the Red Wings (and got swept), and buses of Detroit fans got bused into Washington because they couldn't get tickets at Joe Louis Arena. Can you imagine the embarrassment of the crowd roaring when the Red Wings won the Stanley Cup that year at the Verizon Center? Not only that, but if my memory serves me there were a few octopi thrown onto the ice as well.

DC is unfortunately a transient town and people from all over come to live here, be it temporarily or on a more permenant basis. From what I understand, Charlotte is somewhat similar to a certain degree, although you don't have the Federal Government which turns over every 4-8 years. However one thing that I've noticed about the current wave of newbies in this area (in the last ten years) is that they come here and immediately despise the local teams. If I moved somewhere else (Miami for instance...might as well pick a place with beautiful weather!), I wouldn't adopt that city's teams as my own, but I don't know if I'd immediately start hating them either. One of my old bosses was a huge Patriots fan (moved here from Rhode Island), and he always complained that the Redskins were shown every week here as opposed to the Patriots. I tried in vain to explain the whole concept of territorial rights and so forth, but that fell on deaf ears. So he hated the Redskins because in his feeble mind they kept him from seeing the Pats each week.

Winning solves pretty much everything.

You're right, but there's more to it than that. My family is all from northern MD, and we're all Oriole fans. It's long been known that Camden Yards is a safe haven for Yankee and Red Sox fans each season. I go to about 30 Oriole games a year, and when one of those two teams comes to town (especially on weekends) I'm literally outnumbered in my own ballpark. At this point it's beyond embarrassing, however the fact is that the tickets are out there for anyone to buy. If the Orioles became competitive again (which they're trying to do), that might lessen the problem a bit, but not totally. Oriole tickets go on sale in January, at which point people from Boston and NY are starting to plan their trips for that summer. (It's cheaper to come to Baltimore for a weekend series than it is to see a game at Yankee Stadium/Fenway.) So as soon as tickets go on sale these people are on the phone or internet buying their tickets and making travel arrangements. Instead, Baltimore fans (myself included) are more the type to walk up and buy tickets on game day. However those tickets aren't available on game day when those two teams come to town because their fans have already bought them. Certainly you could argue that people should buy their tickets in advance and so forth, but that's a decision people need to make on their own. (When I go to a game involving one of those two teams, I always get my tickets in advance.) If the team started winning you'd probably see more O's fans at the games, however the crowd would still be split because those teams' fans will still come. The only way to stop it (short of draconian measures) is for people to buy more season tickets, but even then you'd see people unloading them online for a profit, presumably to out-of-town fans. (We see this at every Pittsburgh Steeler away game.)

Incidentally, when I say draconian measures, here's what I mean:

-Tickets to Boston/NY games would only be available in advance if you purchase a season ticket package, or if you personally come to the Camden Yards box office and buy the ticket. (This means no calling on the phone or buying them individually online.) This would prevent tour operators in those cities from buying entire sections of the stadium and chartering buses full of that team's fans down for the games. (In theory they could still do that, but they'd have to physically come to Baltimore and purchase their 200 tickets in person.

-24 hours before the first pitch, individual game tickets for that particular game would be released to the general public online and over the phone. This would make for incredibly long lines at the box office on gameday and so forth, but it would be a huge step in protecting the fan base and knowing Oriole fans like I do I think that they would respond to that. You can insert any team in any sport into this kind of model. As I said it's draconian, however it would be a step towards ensuring home field advantage at games for the home team.

Man, Id love to live 3 hours from Charlotte, Id be at many more games. But a 6hour drive to get there makes it difficult. 3 hours and I would try to attend every home game. The $150 for gas doesnt help either... Been planning on moving down there, but shtuff changes... I couldnt feel like a fan if I wasnt at least attempting to make it regularly...

This is what happens when you make tickets so high only rich people can afford it.

The Panthers have some of the cheapest tickets in the NFL!

http://seatgeek.com/blog/nfl/average-ticket-prices-nfl

Only the 49ers are cheaper!!!

The Redskins are much more expensive. I think our team is more than fair in what they ask for. I end up paying a lot through scalers, but that's sort of my fault for not buying tickets when the front office sells them.

I really think the lack of suport for the Panthers is simply because Charlotte is made up of a lot of transplants who don't have a burning passion for Carolina or want to support everything that is Carolina related. I know a lot of folks from DC and around DC who love everything about DC and anything that represents DC. Charlotte doesn't have a lot of that.

Our fans will show up if we're winning. They'll gladly jump on the bandwagon but they won't show up out of passion and love for their team.

I know Carolina isn't WINNING now, but Cam is amazing and it would be great to see more support for the team.

I still doubt we'll ever be as passionate as northeast teams. The level of support in New York, DC, Boston, etc is unmatched. I know a lot of folks on here hate Philly fans, but the level of passion they bring (whether you love it or hate it) is just something Carolina fans will never grasp.
