One thing I have recently thought about in regards to our offense. Just put yourself in the shoes of any DC around the league. Imagine you are watching film and you have the usual suspects of ANY offense.

Stop:

-Power

-Iso

-Inside/outside zone

-Deep ball

-Short crossing routes

That is the typical. Now, you have to not only take into account Cam's ability to run. Not only the ability of our running backs. Not only the ability of Olsen and Shockey both as blockers and passers. But now, you have to designate time in EACH practice to the OPTION. You have to run reps against it in practice each day, because we've had nothing but good gains on it all year. All those tricky looking formations where we can out-flank you, that's just a little more you have to prepare for, which means the bread-and-butter of our offense won't be AS prepared for.

From a coaches standpoint, it really is fascinating that we can do this at the NFL level. I think our showing against Washington proved that when you have these wrinkles, and you have to take time away from the basic plays in our playbook to prepare for things like the options and end-around plays, you aren't as prepared come Sunday.

Just an interesting thought.

Excellent post. When I had a chance to think about the XOS Software that many NFL teams use. I know that it tells you what tendencies a team will have based on down and distance. Given what Carolina has done in the past Fox Era, they have decided to make teams plan for an all out shootout. First it was just the passing game, now we have added in a potent running attack which includes the qb. All in all a nightmare to game plan for. I'm telling yall go back and watch Auburn game film from last year, Cam can do it all.
