I want to make a playoff run

Recommended Posts

Did Cam Newton not throw an interception in the endzone last week wiping off 7 from us? Yeah I believe he did. Did he also not throw a pick in our own 40 in the 4th quarter which led to direct points for Atlanta? I believe he did

Did he not do the same the week before that against the Saints on the first drive? I believe he did.

And so on and so on. I watched the games too. Turnovers have killed us all year long. People just keep wanting to blame D. Defense is slightly if at all improved compared to last week. The only difference is our O finished their drives this time, especially in the 4th quarter. So it didn't put our D on the field anymore than they had to, and it also kept 10 guaranteed points of their stat sheets. Plus we scored in the 4th quarter this time, when it mattered.

Again D's numbers are barely different compared to last week. The only thing that's different is the turnovers. And again we're 2-0 when we have none. 0-5 when we do.

You can't ask your quarterback to be perfect. No quarterback is perfect. However it's not too much to ask for your defense and special teams to be at least average.

we dropped 30 on easily one of the best defenses in the entire league. this number could easily had been much more without relentless stupid penalties on both sides of the ball. we could definitely drop 30-40 on a handful of teams we have left to face.

i think our chances at the playoffs come down to our tampa bay games and our game against detroit. i dont see NO playing balls out against us last game of the season.

I'm not asking a QB to be perfect, especially a rookie, but that doesn't change the fact it was the primary reason we were losing games, not defense.

And that's exactly what they are. Our D's 16th ranked. Average. Our O's turnovers is what made them 28th in points allowed, but they have been an average defense all year round except against the Bears. Sucky at runs, but great in pass defense(which btw I'll take any day of the week considering this is now a passing league). But today you saw an average defense do an average job, when the O didn't kill us with turnovers, wasted drives, red-zone issues, and inability to finish games and score in the 4th. They also managed to get us 2 turn-overs.

It amazes me how people don't see the correlation between turn-overs and points allowed on defense. As well as the swing in momentum and extra pressure it puts on a defensive unit. Look at Indy...they just got put on 62 points...you really think their D is THAT bad? It's their lack of offense that's killing that side of the ball as well. They go hand in hand. Last week a bunch of people were worried about run-defense against Washington. I said if we get no turn-overs we win, run-defense be dammed. That's exactly what happened and that's exactly what will happen for the rest of the year. Limit turn-overs to 1 or under and we can win out the season. The D will be there when the O plays a complete game. Not asking Cam to be perfect, but I can ask him to limit it to a pick at most....or if he's going to have 2, not in really bad situation(endzone or inside our 30). That I can expect at this point and you should too. And I will continue to expect 30 points average each game we play because that's what a top 5 offense is expected to do.

Wow. The defense gives up 27 points a game but the QB is the reason the Panthers have lost 5 games?

Yes. It's as obvious as black and white. Sorry I know most are a bunch of homers that can't see it but it's true. Our O GAVE away 10-14 points a game during our losses. That's why our D gave up 27 points a game. Do the math. It's that simple. They ARE ranked 16th overall in yards allowed.

We are also 2-0 when we don't turn over the ball. 0-5 when we do....it's the only stat that can be directly related to our win-loss record. Turnovers. Not yards, offense or defense.

Use your brain not your rose colored bias and just look at the numbers. The fact NO's defense is ranked 25th in points allowed hasn't stopped them from having a 5-1 record because their offense played consistent. Our defense has played consistently mediocre all year long except the Bears, and honestly most of that suck came because of special teams. Our offense only played like a top 5 offense today. It's the first day this year or O's points output matched up with their yards output when it wasn't in garbage time.

We're not gonna make the playoffs without a miracle, but a wildcard spot in the NFC this season is a somewhat obtainable miracle.

The wildcards will come down to the Lions, Falcons, and Cowboys, Skins, Giants, Eagles (one of which wins the East). NFC East will hopefully beat up on each other, and the Falcons and Lions will hopefully tumble.

We'd have to win 8 or 9 of our remaining 9, but didn't San Diego do it a few years ago? It's extremely doubtful, but I'd still like to ruin the playoff chances of other teams if we can't make it ourselves.

Forget wildcard. It's not happening. No way in hell we will get a wildcard with our NFC record. Our best chance is still division and hope the other teams lose while we win out so we can tie for first place. If we tie them record wise, we can win with a better divisional record. Wildcard is gone. If we tie for a wildcard we lose because of our conference record.

Also PB acting like the Panther's have a good pass defense. When you look at the numbers, the Panther's defense is 3rd in QB rating at 97. The Panther's have the third worst 3rd down defense in the league at 46%. Yes, the offense has had turnovers. True, but if you look at the leaders in plays from scrimmage on defense.

Compare that to the top of the NFL... The Bears, Lions, GB, Jets, Saints, Steelers and Falcons have all been on the field for more plays. The difference between those defense's and Carolina's???? It's a combination of three things, 3rd down defense, Penalty yards and ST play.

The Panther's have given up 2 ST touchdowns and a few other longer returns that lead to very short fields for the opposing offense. You can break it down into turnovers all you want, but the only way the Panther's continue winning is if the defense and St play the way they did today. They didn't give up any big ST plays and the defense forced three turnovers. The defense ranks bad to horrible in every statistic except for yards allowed and then it's just average.

Now let's talk about Cam Newton and his INT's, you say they are the direct cause of the losses. Carolina is no worse off turnover wise then the likes of NO, NE, SD, Dallas, and the Steelers.

The defense just simply can't get off the field when it needs too. The only two times it's done that half way consistently through a whole game, Carolina won.

    • It's a decent vid with compelling reasons for his opinion. But, my thing is is that you simply can't draft McMillan thinking he is a surefire WR1. There are questions. His 40---rightly or wrongly---will play a part. I'd think that his splits (which will speak more to his game translating to the pros in my mind) are more important.  As much as you're trying to sell us that McMillan is a don't-overthink-it-type-of-player, I wouldn't say that's the case. Workouts will play a part in all of this.  At this point, I like the thought of Tetairoa. That's as much as I can give you right now.
    • If Canales has helped Bryce a “poo ton” and this is what we have then what’s the fuging point? And the offense wasn’t humming with Dalton in there either, except against the raiders who’ll likely be firing their coach after this season.  XL is probably the fourth best looking receiving option on the team right now behind thielen, Coker, and sanders. I don’t think anyone would disagree with that. Who cares about total receiving yards when everyone else has missed time and there’s like 180 yards of receiving a game to go around   and lmao they were “believing” shut the fug up. They lost and for the most part those games were all the defense shutting down the other team. The chiefs turned around and gave up an actual impressive stat line to Aiden O’Connell and I not even the most delusional raiders fans think that means anything. Bryce did nothing against the eagles, the Bucs are a mash unit, and any one of us could have done that Bryce did against the giants and saints.  And as far as who they’d get, they didn’t have any trouble hiring the guy you’re tripping over yourself to defend. They also could have hired Dan Quinn, who’s actually succeeding with a young qb.  And people are acting like the risk of getting paid for not working for five years is a negative. Canales is going to spend the next half a decade getting paid to watch porn in his Bible camp office.
    • the Dallas game definitely quelled the hype. his biggest issue will always be his size, and that shows when he gets sacked. he's simply not big or strong enough to protect the ball. even in the KC game, he fumbled it on a basic sack and thank god icky landed on it. INT's are going to happen, most fans don't understand that tipped balls and wrong routes account for most interceptions. but the wet-bar-of-soap type fumbles upon contact are a huge reg flag. the common theme with players like Darnold and Mayfield who previously played for us and are now excelling makes me want to practice patience more when it comes to the QB position. I think Bryce bought himself another season, perhaps with more weapons. I do like the idea of adding a QB whether that's a FA or mid round rookie. if the same mistakes occur next season and we see no further growth or most importantly, wins, then it will be time to move on. just a quick reminder though, football is not an individual sport. QB is just one position, albeit the most important.
