Just found out about ANOTHER rule change...more QB safety

A defender can still tackle the QB around the feet or lower legs. The rule states that a player can not "hit" a QB at or below the knees. It's actually a good rule. And to answer the question, no a defender doesn't have to completely get up but if he is lunging for the QB he better hit him above the knees.

The rule stats that A defensive play can't go at a QB's legs with any force. So if someone was to be knocked down, They would either have to be with in reach of the qb and simply grab his leg or grasp it or completely get back up.

I wonder how subjectively this rule can be applied. I bet it will be called a lot more often when someone lunges at the Bradys and Mannings of the world than at the Delhommes.

Another rule, another way for refs to miss a call. I wonder how often holding and illegal blocks will be missed because the refs are making sure nobody's lunging at the quarterbacks.

And I agree that if you can't lunge a a quarterback in this manner, you shouldn't be able to lunge at any player in this manner. What's good for the goose should be good for the 21 ganders out there.

And I wonder how many times we'll see this called when it's first and goal, just because the penalty is better than giving up a touchdown on a stupid fade route.

I fully understand keeping the players safe. Nobody wants to see players get hurt.

That said, the NFL is slowly ruining itself. Fox better hurry up and win a SB before defense is completely useless. In the future, they'll just hire people like me for 10 dollars an hour stand out there and get owned. No point in wasting money on defense if the rules prevent you from being able to stop anything.

Edit; How about we adopt this new rule, and to balance it out... we actually start calling intentional grounding like the rule states it should be called?
